Pretty intense!
Once you watch "Potop" AKA "The Deluge",you might get hooked on Polish Historic Epics. This one doesn't disappoint. It gives us a huge dose of Pan Wolodyjowski, a delightful character. The dueling and horsemanship aren't as strong as Potop perhaps. But the storyline is intense.

Entertaining with flaws
This movie is very interesting, but has it's flaws. Despite the cover, don't buy it looking for great battle scenes featuring the winged hussars. The hussars are conspicuously absent from the battle sequences. This movie was made in Poland in the late 60's, when the cold War raged, Poland was still a socialist country and a member of the Warsaw Pact. The movie making they exhibited at the time ran the gamut quality wise. The two biggest weaknesses in this movie are the editing, and the end. The end of the movie seemed highly contrived and not well though out. The story is interesting and holds the viewer throughout the movie. This was the first of the trilogy, I'm wondering but optimistic about the quality of the later two movies.

The greatest with the blade !!!
Love Mike's little twich. Knowing practically nothing about Polish History, I read this book in 1958 when I got out of the USAF. A bunch of guys rented a house at Salisbury Beach, MA. And being suddenly unemployed, I read Pan Michael. With Fire & Sword, and the Deluge.

Excellent Actors
Excellent movie, storyline and actors! Only drawback was some of the English subtitles moved too quickly to read. We bought the trilogy after viewing as it was a very good production. We would definitely recommend this DVD.

Hooray for Hussars!
I found it interesting and I enjoyed it, but you might want to be Polish or be a fan of Polish Lithuanian history before buying it yourself. It is not a mass market sort of production that it was well done and supported finely.

Film version of 3 part triology.
it was a good finish to the triology probably not as good as "Fire and Sword" but I was satisfied, maybe as it was an earlier film.

Four Stars
Although a fictional character, Colonel Wolodyjowski covers an important part of Polish history.

Good historical stuff...
As a descendant of a Polish flyer from WW2 my father and I often talked about this time period in the "rest" of Europe while we were messing around in the UK with powdered wigs and so on. This was a desperate time in the SE of Europe and this story and 2 other associated tales depict what might have happened if the Turks had got to the rest of Europe if they had got past Vienna.Apart from that, a good price and very speedy delivery considering from whence it came. Thanks

Confusing details about this DVD
A pity that the details for this were rather confusing, the DVD being advertised as Region: Whole World, but actually it is Region 1 only,So, as I want to see the last part of a very good trilogy, I have kept it and watched it via the PC!Not ideal but at least it is available.,The film, obviously the oldest of the trilogy, is OK, just wish that there was a better copy available

Aufwendig gedrehter Historienfim
Ich kann die DVD nur empfehlen, auch die anderen Teile der Trilogie. Leider gibt es diese DVD nur auf polnisch, ist aber kein Problem, wenn man das Buch dazu gelesen hat.
