Copying Slides with a Nikon DSLR
Nikon makes it easy to copy Slides with this ES-1, the BR-5 Adapter and the AF Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 lens. Use Auto Focus, or focus Manually, aiming at a White Screen, a Lightbox or a Bright Outdoor Sky. (Note that if you have the Nikon D850, you'll need the ES-2 Adapter). I'm using this with the D810, but this set-up works for any Full Frame DSLR and the 60mm Micro-Nikkor. The results are very sharp copies of your Slides, and you can vary the file size in the camera menu.

The Nikon ES-1-52mm slide copying adapter is well constructed and works as advertised. I used it with a Sony A6000 using the kit lens, close up rings and a filter size adaptor. My only complaint is there is no way to lock the sliding insert of ES-1.

Converting slides to digital is great
Recently used a Nikon D7200 with 40mm Micro Nikor lens and a rig fashioned with white paper background to copy my years of slides to the cloud. Use the camera's flash to bounce off a white printing paper to back illuminate the transparency. Experiment with the exposure. Auto focus makes it a snap for accuracy as well. There are free apps on the web to allow you to connect your computer to the camera USB out that transfers the image directly to a file base for further work in Photoshop type programs. Be sure to blow off any dust before capturing the image to reduce later workload. I find the clone tool works well to hide the black spots that the dust makes. Have fun and stay away from the cheap "transfer in a box" digitizers and use a DSLR instead.

Follow the Instructions, Nikon knows best!
It works very good IF you use it per the instructions, I ended up and bought a 55mm 2.8 used Nikkor plus a used PK13 extension ring as one of the choices in the instructions, without the Nikkor 60 mm lens or the 55 mm (both Macros), I could not get slides in focus with anything else I tried. Luckily the used 55 mm lens (Macro) I found was around $160 for a grade 9 from reputable dealer and it looked perfect and the PK13 was on Amazon for around $55. I am using this on a D750 full frame and shoot at F32 (Use F11 as pointed out by comment listed below!) to maximize depth of field (focus plain) on the copied slide surface, takes outdoor light to illuminate properly. Suggest you watch your ASA equivalent film speed if you allow auto ASA.

Quality product... use with the right lens.
This is a great way to make your slides digital. Works well with the Nikon 60 millimeter macro lens if you have an fx sensor. The 40 mm macro would work well with a DX lens camera.

Best Possible Way To Copy Slides
With the help of a Metal 52-52 mm 52mm 52 mm Female to Female Coupling Ring, the ES-1 was a GREAT way to digitize high quality slide copies for storage on the computer. I used this combo to copy over 3,000 slides and did it all in a matter of a few days. The results were outstanding. Much better quality and faster than scanning.

Not a good solution to scann film
Not a good solution to scann film. I will rather go for a film scanner from Kodak or other brands that are optimized for the fuction with adecuate resolution.
