Beautiful art, good explanations of the technique
This book is written by a self-taught mixed-media artist. The book includes examples of his artworks which I liked and found them very useful in the context of the technique explanation. The book starts with a brief history of fluid art. The history starts with Savid Siqueiros, but unfortunately does not show any of his artwork. I was able to locate his work on internet as I wanted to see what his art looked like to influence so many other artists. Then the book describes how to set up your own studio, including the safety equipment such as fire extinguisher. I liked that the author included photos of his own studio as well as the price of the equipment. Finally, the author moves to explaining the technique he uses. The explanations were clear and useful, and the artwork itself is beautiful. One thing I found a little distracting is that the text of every line in this book is centered, rather than using the traditional type setting technique of filling each line start to end. However, I was enjoying the content and the formatting annoyance was minor.Ali Julia review

pouring acrylics
This was the first book I read on this subject. I found it to be quite helpful in getting started on acrylic pours. Will be using most all the suggestions.

Even if you have never poured this will help you so much. I definitely recommend it wish I would have found it sooner

More of an outline than a real book
For the price I kind of hoped for something that would take me more than a half-hour to read. The author's paintings are quite lovely, but the text reads like the outline of a real book, or a well-illustrated book proposal.Perhaps the only way to learn this technique is by watching videos on You Tube, or by taking classes. I was hoping for something a little more in-depth. For example, the author admits that some of the materials he uses frequently are not archival (and I applaud his honesty), but he doesn't really go much into archival alternatives or the implications of using non-archival materials in works for sale. He also doesn't get much into the aesthetics of poured paintings beyond simple statements about "balance" and so on. Is there such a thing as too many cells in a painting? (Apparently, judging from what I see, more is always better... But that approach can create overly busy, unfocused, messy paintings.) (IMHO.) How can pouring be combined with other acrylic techniques? How do you get past "pretty" and "cool" into creating meaningful, expressive abstract art?Nonetheless, there don't seem to be any professional-level books out there about this technique, and the information provided is enough to give anyone a way to start. I look forward to seeing the author's next (longer) book on pouring, due to be published later in 2018.

This was like icing on the cake.
It helped me understand the u-tub viedoes better. It filled the gaps, making it complete. Thank you for taking the time to explain everything in a book.

Excellent material, short and to the point
Rick's book is an excellent collection of recipes and method recommendations. He begins with a very brief history of the art form and then lists a few recipes followed by short chapters describing a variety of techniques. At the end of the listing is an extensive glossary of terms. The reason I gave this book 3 stars is because it reads more like a white paper - notes for a presentation. The entire book took me about half an hour to read. There were photos of Rick's finished art, which is nice. It would be helpful to have more photos from the actual process.I read this book on my iPhone using the Kindle app. The text was centered and page breaks were inconsistent and sporadic. There were inconsistent gaps in the text making the aesthetic appearance of this book a little distracting. The photos were small and difficult to see.If you are looking for a short book to use as a quick reference guide while creating your liquid pouring art, this book will meet your needs.I received this book for free in exchange of my fair and honest review.

More a pamphlet than a book!
I was expecting a BOOK. This "book" measures 6" x 9" and is far better described as a color pamphlet. The justification of the center type is weird and makes everything look like it's poetry. The illustrations are SMALL, often only 1 1/2" or 2" x 2" - utterly ridiculous for a book about art! Excluding the table of contents and glossary, this "book" is only 31 pages - and it probably would only constitute 15 pages if you removed the tiny photographs! It took me all of 45 minutes to read, cover to cover - TWICE. I gave it two stars instead of one, out of sheer respect for the artist, whose art is waaaay better than his book. Rick has other books - but after receiving this title I'd be loath to buy any others for fear of being as disappointed. Not gonna happen, I can guarantee that. I've purchased some truly great books for $15.00 plus shipping - this is NOT one of them. One star for the text, one for the artist. 'Nuf said. There isn't a single thing presented in this book which can't be learned better on YouTube, from Rick's channel, or the myriad of other paint pouring artists. If you've watched 3 or more of Rick's videos, you've seen more "content" than appears in his book.

One of the few books on the subject
I like the book a lot. The information is concise & straightforward. My only criticism is that there should have been a better editing job. I've found several repeated sentences following one upon the next and grammatical errors. Might not bother the average person, but I do editing on a regular basis and these things are glaring to me. Do like the photos of the artwork. Nicely placed and in good focus. I assume this is a self-published work. No harm in that, but a second pair of eyes wouldn't have gone amiss. Regardless, I do recommend it.

Waste of money
If only I had heeded the review that said thete was nothing in this that you wouldn't see on facebook. Bought this for my daughter who had already been creating great artwork by pouring acrylics. I hoped she would get at least a few ideas from this book...it's more a pamphlet than a book...give it a miss

I am new to the idea of Acrylic pouring and enjoy many different art forms, so this is a perfect book to read.Rick has taken the time to share with us many hours of work and different ways of trying to get the best out of each 'pour' and the different ways of doing it.This book is great for those who are just starting to those who want to enhance their skills.Thank you Rick 😇👍

Big disappointment. Sorry Mr Cheadle
I seem to be in the minority here! This book has nothing new to say, nothing you can’t find on YouTube, you won’t learn much at all from it. Some paragraphs are repeated several times and it seems to me that the author had difficulty filling the pages. A small paperback with few pages too, not worth it’s price in my opinion. Big disappointment. Sorry Mr Cheadle.

A must for anyone starting out with fluid art!
A brilliant and very informative book! I have learnt so much from this book and I already knew quite a lot already from my own research and trial and error but this book has still managed to teach me a thing or 2!

Good general overview but pricey
Lots of interesting ideas to follow. Material recommendation a bit vague and not really offering much more clear info then what can be found on-line. Quite pricey for the relatively small number of pages.
