SCHOOL-LIVE BD

Somber and uplifting in equal measure.
School live is an interesting slice of life showI would describe it as 1 part zombie survival show,1 part drama, and 1 part coming-of-age story.I am sure many will compare it to something more popular as say Highschool of the dead.So i will reference HOTD several times throughout my review,as i will give many a frame of reference.Where as HOTD had many over-the-top actions scenes and moments, School live is a far more grounded take on the zombie apocalypse and it characters. There is not any high flying action set pieces to be had here, and the characters are far more believable as real people. As such they are not zombie slaying machines, so do not expect a ton of action in this show, it is definitely a drama first.HOTD boasted some very exaggerated characters and body types. School live goes for much smaller and younger looking characters. Despite this School live does not go very ecchi or exploitative with the angles and situations it puts its characters in, though it does tease at the idea a bit.School live focuses more on the mental aspects of a zombie apocalypse, as you see many characters struggle with their mental state throughout the shows runtime. School live really brings out the struggle of maintaining a solid state of mind, when you are put in a stressful situation, day after day and at times forced to defend yourself from the people you used to know and care about.School live is not all doom and gloom however, and does boast many comedic and relaxing moments as the characters come up with activities to help them cope with the stress, and feel normal if only for a day. These moments do not last too long though and there are several twists and heart wrenching moments in School live, that really pull at the heart strings and remind the audience what kind of world they are in.I do have some nitpicks however: School live is a not very dynamic with its locations, so expect to spend a huge amount of time in the main setting, the school.Several ending scenes tease at the idea of potential spin-offs and a season 2, which we never got, so be ready for that.It also boasts a very small cast. So if you do not fall in love with them and their personalities quickly, you may find yourself annoyed by their antics fast.Their is also a few tone shifts that bugged me a little. Example after some particularly somber episodes, i was greeted by some very upbeat outro music, that seemed out of place for the subject matter of the previous episode.Overall of loved my time with the characters of School live and can wholeheartedly recommend this show for any zombie fan.

Interesting and keeps you on your toes
I really wish I could have gone into this anime blind meaning not having any ideas what it was about. The first episode really set the mood/atmosphere perfectly and although you could definitely tell something was up, and it’s not until the end that it goes from your typical cutesy high school girl anime to something completely different. And the subtle clues you pick up along the way about (character name hidden to prevent spoiler) really make sense later. It was very interesting the psychological defenses used by Yuki. The biggest issue I had was it jumped around a little too much at the beginning and it was hard to figure out if something was up to speed or a flashback. But it always kept you on your toes because you never knew if it was going to be a lighthearted scene, a sad scene, a serious scene, or a scary scene. There is a good bit of just lighthearted scenes, but it is definitely sad at times, is serious at times, and although I don’t know I’d say it was “scary” there are some “scary scenes” but it’s definitely not anything too scary just tense but some might find it scary. The characters are all great I love Kurumi, Yuri, Miki, Yuki, Megu nee, and Taromaru. Honestly the presentation of this was so good that it really is one of the more entertaining I've seen, not that I would say it’s the most flawless animeor anything but from a purely entertainment experience it was one of my favorites. It’s also fairly kid friendly with very little mild bad language and other than a couple shower scenes that aren’t sexual or graphic there isn’t really any ridiculous fan service. Some kids I’m sure would be scared but most kids watch much scary movies, and violence in my opinion is pretty tame.

I enjoyed this show a lot, I like how there's one is delusional about the state of things and the other works to keep her in that state of mind,

I like the story
I like the story, how they survived what they had to do during a crisis. It had the sadness moments and some happy. The psychological fight between what is fake and what is real.

A great story with a lot of twists and heart.
This is a fun anime featuring a group of girls who live in a school 24/7. The premise is well written and the exececution is delivered flawlessly. Without giving too much away, the story is so well written that you will feel for these girls as they struggle to maintain their after school "club". Very well drawn and the English voice overs are performed well. Of course there is always the option to watch it in the original Japanese if you like that too.
