A Page-turner: Keeps you on your toes till the last page.
Well I have been a big fan of Deaver’s Lincoln Rhyme novels, so picked up this book with a pinch of reluctance. But after a few pages I got hooked. The story revolves around, pre-WWII Germany. A successful assassin carrying out mob hits in the US is recruited, sent to Germany on a mission to assassinate a colonel responsible for Germany’s rearmament prior to the war. I am not going to take out the nail-biting suspense by narrating the story further.Parallel to the build up of suspense and intrigue, the book also provides the reader with a snapshot of the atrocities, shear barbarism and the inhumane torture that people, especially those labeled “Non-Aryans” suffered during the regime of Hitler and his psychopathic cronies. Here readers may find certain events abhorring, repugnant and outright disdainful. The book through the so called Waltham Study, provides the reader with the underlying strategy and technique which was used to create the “Einsstatzgruppen, the so called Death Squads that later were responsible for the mass executions.

Deaver
Book arrived quickly. A little disappointed in condition. Description stated New, and it is not. Slip cover creased at top, pages discoloured on edge. Happy to have a hardback of this novel, just description of its condition a little misleading.

Very interesting
Not what I thought but very enthralling, story wide-ranging and keeps you guessing.

Story set in the past.
Good book, easy read but strange to be set in the past and in Germany. Quite a good cat and mouse chase and the ending was a bit of a suprise. Overall enjoyable but not as good as some of J Deavers other books. Worth a look though.
