Perfect story, characters, flow, everything!
Lover Revealed ***** 2/22/23, *****6/7/2018 Butch & Marissa5 stars. We get to know Rehvenge (the Reverend that owns Zero Sun and is Marissa’s brother) a little better and we are introduced to Xhex, who works for Rehv at his club. Butch & Marissa have a hard time getting together throughout the entire book. So many obstacles, not only that he is human but his low self esteem that he isn’t worthy of her or being with the brotherhood. Marissa’s brother, Havers, is the race’s physician and he is a total jerk to Marissa which broke her heart until it didn’t. Butch has to come to grips with what he is and what he wants to be and how he plans to help out the vampire race. It is a good book and it updates all of the other characters and their lives. Tohr has not returned and John is still devastated over Wellsie’s death and Tohr poofing out of their lives. The training of young vampires goes well and of course there is a villain in the group they have to deal with. We get to know 3 of the trainees better, Lash, Blake . John is forced to be more involved with the brothers and his sister which he isn’t opposed to but just can’t get over his loss of the only parents he has ever known. This is a must read book in the process of this series. I loved every minute and as with the other books, it is very hard to put this down to work sleep or anything else!

The black dagger brotherhood books are some of the most interesting and awesome books I have ever read. This is my third time reading through the series and it’s always new. You won’t be able to put them down.

Butch and Vishous make a badass team
This is the story of Butch and Marissa. They were introduced in book 1, and have been appearing ever since. Butch was taken by the lessers and tortured, then the Omega put part of himself in Butch’s stomach. Vishous was able to remove most of it and heal Butch, but there is still something left. Some connection. Butch is awesome, he used to be a cop, but after discovering Vampires, he took to the life. He is now roommates with Vishous in the Pit, he wears all designer clothes, shoes, watches, wallets, and drives an Escalade, and he is willing to get into it with a bunch of Lessers to protect civilian vampires, and won’t give away the brothers even after unbearable torture.I’m thinking Marissa is pretty much a selfish bitch sometimes. I mean she knows how much Butch loves her. She knows he wants to be the one that feeds her, she knows that he doesn’t want her to go to this “other guy” to feed her, so what does she do? Instead of talking to him about it and trying to come up with a mutually agreeable plan, like maybe using V, or possibly another friend, she just dematerializes and goes to Rehvenge to feed. Also when she know he wants to change she just immediately says. “If I asked you, would you not do it?” When it should be his choice not hers. She has to know in something like that, if she forced a choice on him it would end up in resentment and that would sour the relationship later on. But it isn’t until he explains his entire childhood and reasoning to her that she finally agrees to let him make the choice of what to do with his own body. And by the way, after Butch’s story about his childhood, all I can say is what the heck is wrong with his siblings. They should have seen that the parents were nuts and stood up for him. So I say he is better of with Vishous and the brothers. Then Marissa does it again after the Scribe Virgin tells Butch and Vishous about how they were meant to find each other so the light can benefit the dark and how Butch is now the Dhestroyer. She doesn’t care how he can possibly save her species, she just cares that she doesn’t want him to get hurt because she might lose him. She also doesn’t care that this is what he wants to do with his life, now that she is running a shelter and happy with her life. I am really hating her, but I love the book because I love Butch and V so much. They are completely awesome. The storyline about John is coming along as well too. He is still suffering about what happened to him in that stairwell of the building he was crashing in before Wellsie found him. He even beat up Lash for ragging on him and one of the other guys after training one day. He thinks nobody will understand what he went through, especially Zsadist, since John saw Zsadist and Bella being so loving. I can’t wait until he actually opens up to Zsadist for some advice. You know that is coming since they go on walks every night.

Moody Marissa
I'm not even done yet but I feel like I just can't hold this back anymore .. does anyone absolutely despise Marissa as much as I do?? Butch is absolutely amazing, I hate that he's in love with someone who seems so haughty and selfish!

How to make one a vampire...
Just finished the fourth book in the BDB series, and believe it or not, I actually stayed up late to do so. I hate to admit it but these books are addicting, and I just can’t help craving the next book. Lucky for me, I’ve gotten into the series only recently and there are plenty of books to go before having to endure months of wait for the next installment. Although, I am still uncertain of whether I will stick it out to the end, but one never knows…As we progress further into the BDB world, we get to learn more and more about each brother, and this story is no different. It features Butch and his lady love – Marissa. Both of these characters were initially introduced in the first novel of the series, and since then I’ve actually grown to like Butch. Marissa, on the other hand, was a different story for me. I didn’t much like Marissa’s character from the beginning, and her love connection with Butch felt overly convenient. It is as though everyone fell right into place, as the pieces of the puzzle, and from the quartet of these characters: Wrath, Marissa, Beth and Butch, we managed a HEA for each couple. I guess my main complaint here is predictability; which can be said of the whole series in general, as each book follows a fairly similar story arc: boy (or I should say brother?) meets girl, sparks fly, lessers run around making feeble attempts at being evil and menacing, some fighting takes place (where the males can be on display, saving the race), drinking/smoking happens, the brother du jour finally makes his feelings known, some more drama ensues, and then…HEA. Well, it is not exactly a bad storyline, in fact, there are a million books with a similar storyline, but when the setting is the same, at a certain point it does become redundant, don’t you agree? For now, however, I find myself quite engrossed in this world to continue my indulgence.Character Notes:Marissa has quite surprised me in this book. I’ve loved her finally gaining some independence and getting in touch with reality of the world, because her aristocratic upbringing clearly hampered her. If you thought 40 year old virgin was bad enough, try 300 year old! So, way to go Marissa! “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.”[And it made me especially proud, when she finally spoke up at that princeps’ meeting –put a smile on my face.] I am certainly all for strong, independent women, and although Marissa didn’t stay on her own too long, as she fell right into Brotherhood and Butch’s arms, I’ve still gained some respect for her.Butch’s story was quite predictable, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. [I knew he will be made a vampire and a brother, and was absolutely thrilled that it finally happened.] It was clear that he couldn’t keep taking the backseat to all the action, and remain content of living off of the Brotherhood. He needed to take a stand, and there were only two outcomes in this scenario, and I’m glad it wasn’t death, although that might’ve made it a surprise ending. In this book, Omega’s involvement added a bit of excitement to the story, and for once it wasn’t as dreadful to read a chapter on the lessers . It didn’t last however. The whole Van storyline felt completely unnecessary, and I’m still confused as to why we are subjected to reading about the lessers. I wish Ward gotten rid of them altogether.Last but not least – Vishous, who played almost as big a part in this book as did Butch. Vishous is certainly an interesting character, with many secrets; and I’m quite thrilled about his story (which is the next one in the series). It felt though, now that Zsadist has been reformed and mated to Bella, Vishous was the next black sheep of the “family,” and he certainly played such a role, with everyone following up on him. But an interesting spin on this storyline was his relation with Butch, which seemed quite unorthodox and confusing. I hope some revelations are to come in the next installment. So, on to book five I go…

Brilliant, gripping 4th installment in the BDB series
Another great read in this series - Butch is a homicide cop in Caldwell who, through a series of events surrounding his friend Beth (Dark Lover), encounters the Brothers and is drawn into their world of vampires and lessers. Butch has had a difficult childhood, blamed by his parents and siblings for 'allowing' the murder of his sister Janie, even though he was only a child himself at the time it happened. He drinks heavily, did drugs in the past and generally lives a self-destructive existance which included hooking up with loose women. When he meets Marissa, a beautiful aristocratic vampire female, she is so totally different from the women he has slept with in the past that he falls totally head over heels in love with her. The problem is that he is human, and not one that has taken care of his body; he feels their time together is not going to be a long one. When he is captured by the Lessers and the Omega does something terrible to him which changes him forever, he feels that any chances he had to be with Marissa are gone forever. However this is where his fiercly loyal friend Viscious comes to the rescue - his 'cursed' hand, capable of such destruction, is ultimately what is required to purge Butch of the evil planted into his body by the Omega. But Butch is not the only one with demons; Marissa has her own battles with the Glymera and her judgemental and aristrocratic brother, Havers who is horrified by her associating with 'the human', now contaminated by the Omega. When Marissa leaves her old life of luxury and priviledge behind (having been disowned by Havers) and finds herself living at the Brotherhood mansion, Butch realises that he wants to be her, but not only for a few years - he wants the whole deal or nothing. He tells his friend Vishous how he feels and that it's make or break time. Vishous talks to the king (Wrath) about an idea he has and once the Scribe Virgin agrees they conduct a series of tests which establish that Butch has in fact got some vampire blood in him - and he actually descends from Wrath's bloodline! But the transition from human to vampire will not be easy, and Marissa is torn between wanting to be with Butch forever and losing the few precious years she could have with him if he does not make it through the change from human to vampire and then through the transition....In this book we also live through the tortured emotions Vishous has for Butch - he loves him like a brother, like his best friend, possibly more?? Still waters run deep and there is so much more than meets the eye where Vishous is concerned - one thing is for certain, that he will do anything for his friend Butch and the two find themselves in the eye of the storm with the Scribe Virgin and the Omega both focused on Butch, who is the one who is set to fulfill the prophecy of the Dhestroyer. A compelling read from start to finish, this book is a real page turner.

Like Butch more than I thought
This is the fourth book in the series. You should definitely read the first 3 before this one, starting with book one: Dark Lover: Black Dagger Brotherhood series: Book 1 The book centres on Butch who has ended up in the strange position of being a disgraced cop living with the Brotherhood. I was a bit hesitant in getting into this book because, although I like Butch, I just didn't feel very strongly about him, partly because he's not one of the Brotherhood. I was more interested in poor Marissa, in some ways, and the raw deal she seems to have had as part of the vampire aristocracy. In this story, Butch ends up being taken by the Lessers and having something terrible done to him by the Omega. Once rescued, the brothers, and especially Vishous try to discover what has been done to him now that he seems to have a strange attraction to the Lessers. Is he ultimately going to become one of them? The story is fast-paced and there is a lot going on, which I liked. I grew to like Butch a lot more and his relationship with Vishous was enjoyable to read. In fact, I'd say it is the main attraction of the book. You get to find out much more about Vishous than we ever have before too. The least interesting part of the story to me was Butch's relationship with Marissa. Having liked her before, I found myself getting frustrated with her cool and proper aristocratic demeanour. Grow a backbone, I found myself thinking repeatedly. She does eventually, but it takes far too long and even then I didn't warm to her as much as I have to all the other shellans. Oh, and on a personal note... I hate the way Butch calls her baby all the time, so tacky! There are some really good side-plots in this book which I enjoyed: John's reaction to his recent loss, an inside look at the training of the pre-transition vampires, Zsadist's relationship with John. So, this really isn't as good a Zsadist's story in the previous book by a long shot, but it's still good and continues the story of the brothers well. I would recommend any fans of the series to read it.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Kindle: the Kindle edition of this book was a long time coming and unfortunately it isn't perfect. There are a fair few errors such as typos, incorrect words and spaces between words. It's not enough to ruin the experience of reading the book, but it's disappointing nonetheless. Dark Lover: Black Dagger Brotherhood series: Book 1

New readers. Start buying the series.
I love this book. We learn more about Butch past and his relationship with the brothers. I feel that Marissa has come into her own in this book. You get a couple of chapters from John point of view. And we left screaming hoping that he will find out who he really is.I love this series. I am currently buying each paperback. If your a new reader I suggest you start from the beginning. And you want something to stick your teeth into then this is the one.The only reason I didn't give it a five star was because she could have went into more detail on butch is family. See more of their side of view. Of why he doesn't get on with them. I felt part of his history was missing.I wanted to see him interact with his family. Turn and say to them that I got a new one now. Stuff like that. But good read.

So jealous, I wanna be changed
Poor Butch, always an outcast, from his family, from the force and then from the Brotherhood, even though they've taken him in as one of thier own.Marrissa, unmated ex-schellan to Wrath, King of Vampires, shunned by the aristocracy, pitied by her brother and then thrown out because the man she love's is human.I loved this story just as much as those before it. And to think Butch could be related to Wrath, dreams do come true.I thought the storyline became quite predictable about midway through with the shelter and the change. But no less enjoyable because of it.The stories are so well written I actually still feel like I am watching a movie in my head. The characters are all so well known to me now. I am unable to put these books down, and on average have read every one in just 24 hours, despite two children, a husband and going to work. Thank goodness for those midnight hours when I have the peace and quiet to just immerse myself! Although I have had to promise my husband a whole day of no reading as a result.I love everything about this series and I am ready for the next book (tomorrow), especially give V's increasingly odd behaviour.Another keeper.

Butch Bites Back
Lover Revealed - J R WardButch O'Neal was just an ordinary cop until, entirely by chance, he got drawn into the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Yet, whilst partly replacing the family that had treated him as an outcast after his teen-aged sister was murdered and he was the last one to see her alive, he still feels very much on the outside, with no real purpose and very few possessions. Apparently spurned by Marissa, one of the vampire elite and the woman he lusts after, he starts to believe that the best thing to do would be to disappear and start afresh, but all that changes when he defends one of the civilian vampires and is taken prisoner by The Society of Lessers and tortured to the point of death to reveal all he knows about the Brotherhood. Mortally wounded and infected by some dreadful darkness, it seems that he must die, but there are two people who are determined he should live and face a future he could never have imagined was there for him.Probably my favourite of the BDB books so far, with a good story that reveals more about the fight between the vampires and the Lessers. There's a fair bit of sex, and if you don't like such scenes in books, then the BDB is perhaps not for you, but I don't find it too overpowering and to me it's made up for by the interesting notion of this vampire nation fighting for survival.
