Great maps
Ordered this from another seller and it arrived WITHOUT the maps! This seller's merchandise was beautiful and complete. My grandson is very happy.

A Very Useful, Beautiful Reading Companion...
Beautiful art and a very useful companion to readers of Tolkien's work, especiallyt he posthumously edited wors such as the later tales, the Silmarillion and others. I was disappointed that there was not a map of the entire First Age world, showing what was lost, but I suppose another artist will step up and complete that work in the future. Highly recommended for Tolkien scholars.

Some wonderful color work here with interesting borders
Some wonderful color work here with interesting borders. I especially liked the use of the the sigils. However I would have preferred more map and less border. Some place names were missing, such as the Gap of Maglor and Thangorodrim. I guess I prefer the cleaner pen and ink style maps(the reproduction of Christopher Tolkien's gloriously minimalistic map of Wilderland) but this was a quality effort. I was somewhat pleased to see the Numenor map though it seemed, I don't know, empty or wanting for more detail. Still one can't find many maps of Westernesse so it is a great find. As to the Middle Earth map of the Third Age, I looked for place names that should have been there but were left off. Dorwinion, Framburg, Cirith Ungol, Elostirion, Mount Gram and Rhosgobel were a few I noticed but then I guess I'm picking nits here. Like the other maps this one seemed to have too much border and not enough map. A noteworthy effort all around.

maps are suitable for framing
The 4 maps are beautiful, with excellent mapwork and skilled illustrations to accompany the maps. They are quite suitable for framing, but since they are double-sided, once they are framed, you do lose access to some information. Nevertheless, they make for terrific bedroom art for any boys who love Tolkien's stories (as mine does). You will likely need get custom frames, as the 28" square size does not fit well into pre-formed frames sold in most home decoration stores. The companion volume is an added treat.

Too much art, not enough map
This is, to say the least. is a very, very disappointing product. First the good. The "maps" are on good heavy paper that should last with reasonable care. The printing is adequate but not exceptional in any way. The 'maps' come in a protective binder and are also enclosed in a box that contains both the 'maps' and a short book that tells something about the 'maps' but there are no references provided. Now for the bad. The maps are more art than map. The maps at most take up 50% of the available space and one map maybe 25%. The art work is distracting and adds little to nothing the ascetic value of the product. The title of the product lead me to believe that the maps contained therein would be like the wall maps one sees of the world and of the United States, and they are not. The author is an artist and defiantly not a cartographer. The detail on the maps themselves is very rudimentary and would add little to your understanding of Middle Earth. There are no contour lines to aid in determining the type of land in the area being depicted. One map has only regional names and no cities or other boundaries provided.I have been a longtime lover of maps (my father was a cartographer for the Corps of Engineers US Army) and have studied in some detail the entire published works of professor Tolkien. I began reading the work of the good professor in 1967 and have not been able to stop. I was lead to believe that these maps were well researched and would provide some help as to scale, but since no distance measure is provided it is of no use there either. If you love maps and not just wall posters with uninspired art taking up most of the printable area and maps providing no detail I strongly recommend the work of a real life cartographer Karen Wynnfonstad titled "The Atlas of Middle Earth Revised Edition" ISBN:0-618-12699-6 available through Amazon or one of the used book dealers. The price is better, the product is better and real maps are there. Be aware that the maps are not intended to be displayed. This book will provide you the answers you are seeking presented in a professional manner and well referenced to Tolkiens works. If you are interested in a wall poster at a high price with gaudy uninspired art work then the "Maps of Middle Earth are for you, but not for me. My wife runs a book business with Amazon and my copy, just received this week will be on sale today. No use keeping low production value work in my library.

Perfect for the Tolkienite, and Classy enough to ease into your decor with the perfect frames!
The maps are GORGEOUS! I do not suggest shoving these beauties in cheap frames as it lessens the feel of them, a nice wooden frame does perfectly! No two in this set are the same, and the book that accompanies it explains each chosen detail and location named in the map!

Beautifully designed
If you’re a fan of middle earth & John Howe’s work you’ll like this set. The selection of Artwork adorning each map is fantastic. The hardback sleeve & overall design looks great & includes a really nice reference guide & index of names by Brian Sibley. The Númenor map is perhaps a little plain but then again the original isn’t overly detailed. But overall a really high quality piece beautifully designed

Nice work of art
I must admit I didn't research this well enough, and had been expecting detailed maps of middle earth to enhance the understanding of the text.In fact it is a collection of art works, probably less informative than the maps in the books, but nevertheless a nice piece and useful addition to a Tolkien lover's collection.

A rare case of four MAGnIFICENT maps!
These maps are reals masterpieces of draw and art. However, the reader of the manificent Tolkien's Maspterpieces must have these maps in its library, illustrated by John Howe, One of the gifter Tolkien illustrators:-The map Of Beleriand, the West-Stretch of Middle-Earth swallowed up by the Sea at The End Of the First ages;-The Map Of Nùmenor is a real Marvel, splendid, magnificent !-the Map Of the Bilbo's Journey, sixty Years before the war of the Ring, is surrounded by a majestic Red Goden Dragon;finally, -the Map Of Middle earth, at he End of the third Ages of the Sun, during the War Of The Ring, setting "The Lord Of The Rings".

Having said that the contents are brilliant and any fan of Tolkien will be happy to ...
Whilst the product was indeed new, it was not without blemishes and I think this ought to have been made clear. My impression is that this is a product which failed a quality inspection and was moved to a 'book renderer'. Having said that the contents are brilliant and any fan of Tolkien will be happy to have it especially for the big map of Beleriand.

Bargain!!
I bought this from Amazon warehouse Deals it was a returned item, but you would not have known. The maps are very good quality my 12 year old like me is a big fan of all things to do with Middle Earth, He wants to put them on the wall in his bedroom. I paid less than a tenner for them so im well pleased. They are a good reference when reading the books.
