Good quality and ⚠️ warning ⚠️!
This steering shaft is very high quality. It is very difficult to install and requires specialized knowledge and tools for a professional installation. This is not a direct OEM replacement it requires modification to install. The directions are reasonably clear for an experienced professional. However, to make things easier I suggest removing the existing steering shaft, place it onto a workbench. Line up the new shaft with the end that connects to the steering box installed. Very important!!!! Mark the end that goes into the upper universal joint! Make sure that both of the shafts are fully collapsed. Carefully mark the upper end where the end of shaft just reaches the place where it inserts into the upper universal joint but doesn't interfere with the universal joint. Before cutting ensure that the new shaft collapses the same amount as the original. If it is the same then proceed to the next step. Cut the shaft where you marked. File the end to keep round off the end. Install the upper end, remove the long screw. Use a punch to mark the drill location. Do not use the upper universal joint as a guide it will damage the threads. Drill a hole through only one wall of the shaft. Next install both ends on the workbench including the jam nuts. Then you can install on your vehicle.

Must modify
Cut to fit. It's good quality but not worth 240 considering the material being cut and thrown out. Truck handles better so thanks I guess.

Needs modified to fit a 89 Bronco!
Negatives: I searched for a steering shaft for my 89 Bronco and the Borgeson 980 was listed as fitting my truck. When I opened the package it is listed on the shaft as only fitting 80-87. After some online research at Borgeson and Jegs, I was able to find the instructions to modify the shaft to fit my Bronco. Would have been nice to let people know that it needs to be modified when spending over $200 for a steering part or at least have instructions in the box. Glad I researched before sending it back.Modifications: I laid out the shaft and marked it next to the stock steering shaft when fully extended. After cutting it off you have to drill a 3/8" pilot hole for the set screw to go into. After installing, the steering was binding. After some investigation, I realized that when I slid the ball joint onto the shaft and drilled it, I slid it on too far and it was now binding on the joint. So had to remove the steering shaft and cut off about another 1/2" to allow proper clearance for the ball joint. After some simple adjustments it works awesome.Positive: the steering feels like a brand new truck now after changing out this last part.

Worth every penny. Cut to fit!
I installed this shaft to replace the stock shaft in an 85 F-250. It's worth every penny. Easily the best dollar for dollar steering improvement I've ever made on a Ford truck.YOU WILL NEED TO CUT THIS SHAFT TO FIT. It's easy to do, takes about five minutes with a hacksaw. Please be aware most of the few bad reviews I see were from people who didn't read the instructions and realize that this is a cut to fit part. Measure twice and cut once like usual.I had one issue that was particular to my setup, and that was an interference issue between my power steering pressure lines and one of the set screws for the lower joint on the new shaft. I think this was unique to my setup, as I'm running an aftermarket Saginaw power steering pump conversion. This was easily fixed in my case by bending the line a hair, and switching to a shorter power steering belt to raise the pump up. However, check to make sure you've got clearance after install before you take off down the road, just in case.

Your truck needs this upgrade
1990 Ford Bronco. Had to cut 11 inches off of the product to get the right fit, but that was expected. Definitely tightened up the steering. I love it. Yes $250 (or whatever they're charging now) is expensive, but it beats the heck out of the old rag joint. If you've got a Bronco or old F-150 this is a great buy.

Works great, looks bad.
This shaft is high quality and resolve some serious steering play that I was dealing with. I wish that they would put a coating like black paint or zinc oxide coating on it. I was going to paint mine but it came very oily to protect from rust and I didn't want to damage the joint seals with a solvent. So I wiped it off well and installed it. Within a week or so it is covered in surface rust and looks like crap under the hood. My 4 year old stainless headers look really nice compared to this shaft.
