Rose Blanche (Creative Paperbacks) Review: Rose Blanche - This is one of the few stories of the Holocaust that is available for younger children, and is told with muted sad pictures and words in a way that a child would see and feel it. It is a good book to initiate discussion and it is not graphic. I have used it with first grade through sixth grade students and all were very moved and had many ideas and good discussions. This has been a difficult book to find and I was very happy to find it on desertcart. Review: Rose Blanche - This is a good introduction for a unit on WWII or the Holocaust for 5th grade and above. I was at a workshop on teaching reading comprehension and the instructor read it aloud to the adults. We were brought to tears by this story and it illustrated how important it is to use good read-aloud picture books even with older students to provide background knowledge about a topic. I finally ordered it to read with my own students.

A powerful picture book about resistance in Nazi times
The innocent Rose Blanche shows humanity to inmates of the concentration camps and pays for it. Innocenti's beautiful realistic pictures add so much to the story, making even the dreary wartime city interesting to pore over. Symbolism of spring growth softening the site of the camp inspires us with hope that the sacrifice of people like Rose Blanche is never in vain. The narrative by Christoph Gallaz switches from first to third person seamlessly to widen the significance of Rose Blanche's story. One of my favourite books.

Review of Rose Blanche
This book was about a young girl that lived during the times of the holocaust. Rose Blanche was out one day and stumbled upon a concentration and she was young so she didn't really know what was going on. She saw children that were around her age who were all skin and bones. She decided that she would bring them food everyday. .... I liked this book because it is a book that tells about the times of the holocaust. It tells how Rose didn't really know much about what was going on because she was so young. She saw the troops in her town and everything but she didn't realize the terrible things that were happening to people. This is a book that really tells how children felt back then during those times. Through this book it seems that the author is trying to get across the feelings of children during those times. They didn't really know the extent of what was going on. All Rose knew was that the children she saw in those concentration camps were starving and that she wanted to help them.

My son read this at school recently as they are covering World War II. Although the text is very simple the whole book is completely wonderful along with the stunning pictures. My 11 year old doesnt normally go on about books but requested this as a recent birthday present because it really affected him and he thought about the story a lot. When i purchased it and look at it myself i completely agree with him, the story is touching and saddening to say the least and i think most children and adults would also think about the same. I cant recommend it highly enough.

La Ilustración de Roberto Innocenti es inmejorable, conmovedora, llena de detalles. Parecido a El Niño de Pijama de Rayas, es un indispensable.

I had thought that the book was in French. I did not realize that I had ordered the English title. The title can be misleading. I think this is a wonderful book to help children understand more about the horror of war.
