Really sharp blades
The media could not be loaded. I’m pleased with this knife set so far. I just finished up a recent massive crafting push as I created a bunch of DIY decor for my kid’s birthday party, and kind of wish I’d had these on hand for it!There are a variety of shapes and sizes available for the blades, which I’m sure I will find useful for many different types of projects in the future depending on whether I need more precision or if I need to cut away larger amounts of material. I am partial to papercrafts, so I decided to try out one of the blades that came on one of the two “regular” knife handles on a strip of cardstock and I was pretty impressed with how easily it cut through. I made two cuts into the paper while holding one end of it in my hand, and the blade easily made two very clean cuts. Then I laid it down on my cutting board to try making a shape including both curves and straight lines, and once again it came out very easily. I didn’t feel like I needed to put a lot of pressure on the blade to get a good cut, which is very exciting since that extra pressure can make it quite fatiguing to get through larger projects. In the near future I could see using some of the larger blades for pumpkin carving at Halloween. They could be helpful for creating etched designs where you want to start off by peeling away some of the flesh before you use other tools to sculpt the finer details. The box is compact and easy to store, with a button at the bottom center that opens the top to reveal the blades. If you want to select a different blade or one of the two included awls, you have to manually pull out the black “flap” in which the blades are encased to access them (the purpose being to ensure the blades don’t shift around while in storage). It is a little challenging to release that “flap” to get to the blades. There is a flat little outcropping of plastic at the bottom that is intended to help you release the flap, but the one on the left side was broken when I first opened the box. As you can see in the video I've included, my fingertip tends to slip off the one on the right side (maybe this is easier for people who keep their nails longer), so I've been finding it simpler just to run my finger along the back.My current DIY project is to create a floor cushion, so I have been ripping up old fabric items that we no longer can use and which aren’t in good enough condition to be donated. I was using a seam ripper to cut away the stitches on an old hoodie, but came to realize the curved blade that came with the set is perfect to slide under several stitches at once, and the sharpness of it makes it much easier to cut through them. They cut through the fabric of the hoodie itself quite easily as well (I started off trying to use one of the straight blades but switched to the curved blade since it was so easy to erroneously cut the fabric when all I really wanted to get were the stitches).I tried out the sharpening stone on one of my older blades, and I do think it may have been helpful to include some basic instructions on exactly how to use it. For example, I know some whetstones are meant to be soaked or oiled before use and I’m not sure if that was the expectation for the one included. The stone itself is a coarser grit (there is no label so I am not sure exactly what level it is, but it feels rough to the touch) so it appears it would be more useful for when a blade has gotten a little chipped. Apparently my blade has gotten magnetized at some point because the dust that came off the stone as I sharpened the blade started to get stuck along the edge. It’s not 100% back to fighting form, but I do notice an improvement in the blade’s cutting ability after using the sharpening stone on it and it was a nice thing to include.I couldn’t really understand the purpose of the included tweezers since they are quite wide and the metal itself is relatively thick for tweezers. They certainly won’t allow for enough precision for use with papercrafting, but it could be that they have a purpose for other hobbies that I’m not aware of.The precision screwdriver advertised on the back of the box was sitting loose in the case. I didn’t notice that the groove for it was located at the top of the box (above the calipers) and since I only really intend to use this set for the blades, I ended up putting the screwdriver in the case where I store my set of precision screwdrivers. Just noting that the screwdriver was not missing from my set, even though it is not shown in the photos or video I made for this review.

Excellent and soft grip handles!
I’ve had the aluminum knife for as long as I can remember, but never liked it not having a place and having a hard time finding it sometimes. And the extra blades? At this point, I have no clue where any of them are. While this set is nice and has so much to offer, it could really use some improvement. Both sides are difficult to pop open to extract a blade because they made the doors too close for comfort and the ends of the blades scrape up against the plastic edge. The blade holding ledge is imprinted with the blade which is nice in case you take out two or more, you can see where they belong when you are done. So it’s not because they aren’t pushed in properly. I also would have taken advantage of the space behind the tray for storing extra blades. I believe a few tweaks to this, and it would be the perfect set. It certainly beats anything I’ve had to date!
