Fear Agent Library Edition Volume 1

Sehr kurzweiliges Sci-Fi Comic
Klare Kaufempfehlung.

Nothing Quite Like It Out There
I have to agree with the reviewer below, something I've griped about and raved about in equal measure: why can't DC take a lesson or two from Dark Horse when it comes to publishing books, in particular Deluxe hardcovers? Comparing the 100 Bullets Deluxe Editions released by DC and the Fear Agent Deluxe Editions by Dark Horse (or the Criminal hardcovers by Icon, or the Fatale hardcover by Image), it's quickly evident that the Fear Agent books are superior in every aspect of production; better covers, better paper stock, a little bit longer on average, 9" x 12" instead of 8" x 11" format, an MSRP of $55.00 instead of the DC pricetag of $59.00. This comparison ends there, since both titles are already classics in two very different genre's. If only both titles were published by Dark Horse. For the $35 Amazon is asking, you can pick up both volumes for $70 and own the entire run of one of the best SF comics ever, in a beautiful package that looks very nice on the bookshelf. Try and track down all 7 of the much smaller trade paperback's in an Indigo/Chapters (the bricks-and-mortar variety), and you'll be paying $150. Enough with the money. Fear Agent has had a very vocal and incredibly loyal fanbase for years now, because it does what only a few books have been able to do -- The Sandman, Sin City, Black Hole, Eightball, Hellboy, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The Walking Dead, Saga -- give the reader the story they'd been waiting for, even if they didn't know they'd been waiting for it. Fear Agent is Remender at his best, loaded with great ideas, the plot crashing forward at a crazy speed, slamming the reader in the guts with shockingly unpredictable turns of fate. Where a large percentage of science fiction suffers from a lack of character development, Remender excels at it. And anyone familiar with Tony Moore, which is likely almost everyone, since he drew the first 6 issues and couple dozen covers of the Walking Dead, knows he is one of the most talented artists around, with a style that is modern but somehow reminiscent of the EC greats so important to the genesis of Fear Agent: Wally Wood, Jack Davis, a bit of Severin and Krigstein. Jerome Opena, who alternates with Moore on art duties, kind of made his name here, at least in comics, and is a great artist in his own right. Highly recommended.

BUY THIS BOOK !!
After spending a fair amount of time looking at other books to buy and to add to my collection i stumbled across this, Not many people have it in their collection but the few that do say it is brilliant. I took there word for it and placed an order. After not having a book before from Dark Hose I was a bit weary as i am used to DC / Marvel. But what can i say there binding on books is second to none, and this goes for their Hellboy Library Edition too. They are solid sturdy books that feel like they wont fall apart after a few reads. They look great on a shelf and tower above anything else you will most likely have on there. The art is great I really like the art it is colourful, dark at times but always a joy too look at. The story is something of a space opera, an idea i am not really keen on, but Fear Agent pulls it off and makes me love the idea. The Characters are interesting, funny and you begin to care about them as soon as you read their first few lines of dialogue, and hope that nothing bad happens to them further into the story. In short Fear Agent for what you are paying is a must own, I have quiet a collection for someone who has been collecting 'Comics' Graphic novels for only a short few months. And I am proud and happy to have this sitting on my book shelf.BUY THIS BOOK !!

FEAR AGENT LIBRARY Vol. 1 - Highest quality, unbeatable price!
* * * * * CONTENT * * * * *This book reprints:- Fear Agent #1 to 11 (originally published by Image Comics)- Fear Agent: The Last Goodbye #1 to 4 (published by Dark Horse, these four issues are #12 to 15 of the series)- Tales Of The Fear Agent: Twelve Steps In One (by Dark Horse, this one-shot is #16 of the series)- Fear Agent: Nothing To Fear (originally included in MySpace Dark Horse Presents #3 and 4)NOTE: The book says it includes #1 to 15 of Fear Agent, but it indeed packs more material than solicited!Rest assured, all the "Tales Of The Fear Agent" back-ups from the original single issues up to #16 are included in this volume. All of that is the equivalent of the first three TPBs of the Fear Agent series collected in this huge book: "Re-Ignition", "My War" and "The Last Goodbye".I'm going to focus my review specifically on the edition of this volume. For a detailed insight of the story and art of Fear Agent you can find a lot of helpful reviews right here on Amazon, just by searching those three TPB editions I mentioned before.* * * * * EDITION * * * * *This Library edition is simply gorgeous and it features:- Huge over-sized format: 12,4 x 8,25 inches, the same as DC's Absolute releases (but without the slipcase)- Sewn binding: the book lays flat on the table and you can read it comfortably with no gutter-loss at all, so you can fully appreciate the art.- Gorgeous, very heavy-weight, glossy paper stock (the same kind of paper stock you find in expensive art-books).- Outstanding printing quality, featuring vibrant colors, rich blacks and really sharp line-art reproduction.- Great bunch of extras, including 14 pages of sketches and designs, as well as 12 pages worth of pin-ups.- Beautiful overall editorial design.- The page count ascends to 512 pages! (Not 440 pages as solicited, as you can see it includes many more!)* * * * * CONCLUSION * * * * *Buy this book! Only Dark Horse can offer you such a high-quality deluxe edition for such a little price. If you were to buy a book of this kind from DC's Absolute line the cover price would be of one hundred dollars (and in most titles you'd get a rather minor page count). Dark Horse offers you this gem for half the price and the same (or even better) quality. If you are familiar with Rick Remender from his excellent Marvel runs do yourself a favor and read Fear Agent. Same goes for artists Tony Moore and Jerome Opeña, whose art comes to life in this glorious edition. Believe me, you don't won't to miss this chance.
