Dangerous Journey: The Story of Pilgrim's Progress

Excellent adaptation of Pilgrim's Progress BUT don't show it to a young child before YOU preview it first. You know your child and what will frighten them. Just wait a year or so until they are old enough not to be frightened by the pictures. At that point they will understand the allegory for the Christian life better anyway. I like the way some of the original words from Bunyan are retained. They will provide a good foundation for when your child reads the adult version as an adult. A LESS scary version (without pictures) is Little Pilgrim's Progress by I think Helen Taylor. My kids enjoyed that VERY much. The only negative to that book was the use of the word "cripple"--my kids' dad was disabled.

Great edition for kids!
Great book, our kids love it. My kids are 4 and 6 so some of the vocabulary is a bit over their heads but we are using it as a great learning opportunity! It has a lot of great illustrations!

Excellent retelling of Pilgrim's Progress with quotes from the original
This is just so well done. It weaves text from Bunyan's original Pilgrim's Progress within the abridged story, combining it with exceptional illustrations. I read this book as a child and it brought the story to life for me. As soon as my oldest was old enough to not be terrified by the images of Apollyon, I bought this for him and I'm so glad we have it. The images may be a bit disturbing, so preview and judge for yourself if your child is ready for it. And the language is a bit "older" and may be hard to understand, but give it a try and read it to your child anyway even if you think they may not understand it--they'll understand more than you realize.

Makes me very happy. I hope it continues for more generations
A must have for Christian families. I read this to my kids many times when they were young. They still talk about it from time to time even though they are grown. I'm a grandma now, and my daughter requested this as a Christmas gift for her daughter, my granddaughter. I bought it for her, so the family tradition continues to the third generation. Makes me very happy. I hope it continues for more generations.

Excellent Book!!
My boys are 7 years old and this book has entertained them during all 3 read-throughs. At breakfast each morning we read the Bible or Bible-based literature. To keep them from being bored, I usually don't read a long book more than once a year, but at their request we've read this 3 times since we bought it 7 months ago! We usually read a chapter a day, so it takes us about a week and a half to go through it. The illustrations help depict what the stories (lessons, really) are saying, and the text itself has sparked innumerable conversations about such things as perseverance, peer pressure, faithfulness, God's provision and love, and so much more. This is a book we will read and treasure for many years to come! I actually came back to this page today to buy copies for my nieces and nephews who I know will love the book as much as we do!

They like the story
This is my second purchase of this book. About 10 years ago we bought it, and our 5 kids literally wore it out. They like the story, but love the pictures. It was just one of those they go back to constantly. It had fallen to pieces, and we were happy to find the exact same edition, and bought it again for the next 10 years.

What a great children's version of a great classic
What a great children's version of a great classic! I was highly pleased with it. We decided to use this for a homeschool co-op class and the children, ages k-5, really enjoyed it. And, even though it's some pretty heavy material to cover, I think they got something from it. This book served as a wonderful springboard for discussing Bible truths. As they continue to grow, you can always refer back to it, because it's good enough for both kids and adults.

Worth it!
This book is amazing. I care a lot about well illustrated kids' books and this one does not disappoint. The details of it are phenomenal in accurately portraying Bunyan's words. It has been a great tool in discussing the hard, but very real, parts of life with our kids and I'm thankful to have this version of Pilgrim's Progress.

An excellent book to read to children which can help explain concepts like right & wrong, good & bad, life & death
First read to my children when they were about 10 or 11, the text can fire their imagination at that age. The morals of e.g. right over wrong, good over evil & life & death that are part of Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress can be discussed and explained as you read. The illustrations are really good & sometimes a bit scary but in the case of my children, they liked the drama. This is definitely not a boring book & when I saw it I was reminded of those precious bedtime reads & thought I'd buy it just in case we are lucky to have grandchildren sometime & can read it to them too.

like so much literature that is directed at children but ...
I bought this again at the age of 61 because I remember it so fondly from when my 5 were little (and I can hardly wait for it to arrive - i have already received one that was ordered two days later).Somehow we misplaced this cherished book and I need to hold it and read it again. It is profound, like so much literature that is directed at children but which adults may need even more than children do.When my eldest son, now a diplomat, was being tested for 'giftedness', the testor who was at the end of a thirty year career and head of testing for an entire school system, discussed this book with my son. They discussed many things but the one I remember best was how we had come to our decision on how to pronounce the ' slough of despond' (my error) but what fun to learn along with my son!
