The actual color of the ink may be subject to variations in manufacturing and computerized scanning quality of the sample Review: Great Color - Works well with a fountain pen. Looks great in a letter or card. Something different from black or blue! Review: As always, Diamine gives a lot of top quality ink for the price. Shipping was a tad bit slow. - The bown is very nice, a little darker than Waterman's, perhaps more informal, as well, so there is room for both in my ink cupboard. This is clearly a well-behaved, easy-flowing ink, but not overly wet. Should work fine in most pens, even ones which tend toward dryness. The brown leaves a pleasing line, and is an attractive color if you have been avoiding trying this color region of inks. Seen en masse in a paragraph or as a page, it looks good. Just a touch of red livens it, but not so much that you'd see itin tbe ink if not looking for it. Certainly not a "dull brown" in any sense. For most people, it is a toss up between this and Waterman's. As expected, the Diamine is the more saturated. So base your choice on that and maybe by having a quick look at samples displayed online, although I think "swatches" are misleading; go by the writing samples. Both are pen-safe, long-standing stalwart inks of the pen world!

Like it, wish it were more red
I like this ink. I've been looking for a sepia and decided to try this out. I like it enough but wish it was a little more red.

Just right
I've tried a few brown inks and this was the color I had in mind. Private Reserve Chocolat was too dark, and too dry. J. Herbin Cafe d'Illes was a little too pale. Ancient Copper was kind of neat, but not sober enough for my work. This ink has just the right amount of red, for my tastes. It's a pleasure to write with. Color preference is so highly individual that I can't recommend it for you, of course. If you think you'll like the color, then go for it. Being a Diamine ink, it is well behaved, so that shouldn't be an issue.
