Warning: May Not Be For Everyone
As an adult, I loved this book. Each page has a beautiful, artistic illustration on it with a single word description. The nostalgic style of the illustrations is a refreshing change from most contemporary children's books. When read through the book, you'll notice an association between the figures on the pages. For example, on the left page will be an illustration of a man looking through a microscope with the word BIOLOGIST, while on the right page there will be an illustration of a man looking though a giant telescope with the word ASTRONOMER. Initially the associations are easy and obvious, but as you progress they begin to become more complex. As a parent, I still love the book, but I can see how others might be hesitant. There are illustrations that other parents might be uncomfortable explaining to their young children. For example: CORPSE, AMPUTEE, EXECUTIONER.Every parenting style is different, but I will have no problem trying my best to explain these figures to my daughter when the time comes.

Awesome!
I love BlexBolex! I have many of his other zines and books. He has such a distinct style and yet he can design people in so many different ways. I love referencing him for color and seeing how he overlapped shapes to create a second or third color as well as seeing how he used negatives as a shape too. It's great for people interested in making illustrative prints for silkscreen. I bet it would look even nicer if it was screenprinted, but this laser printed copy is still awesome. The paper quality really helps the color. The delivery of this book took ridiculously long, but it was well worth the wait.

A Beautiful and Long-Lasting Impression...
A beautiful, beautiful book by a very smart and talented artist. I love how the illustrated relationships between people aren't always so obvious and that it requires some measure of critical thinking. This book really allows you to see the world and the people in it through the artist's eyes in a very endearing and charming way. I highly recommend this book. It is a basic staple in the library of someone who practices or appreciates art and design. As for the negative reviews which I was quite surprised to find, they are completely unfounded.

Beautiful Book
I love this book. It instantly became a favorite at our house. My children are 4 and 5 and were so interested in it. I even love how they added things like corpse, smoker, slave, and nudest along with princess, doctor, and knight. It brought up a lot of questions which brought on a lot of conversations. I'm also under the mindset that my kids should know the ugly in the world as well as the good. There were even some mythical creatures and spiritual creatures. If you like books that inspire thinking then you should definitely get this book.

Weird and Wonderful
I love the illustrations, which appear to be silkscreens. There is one image and one word per page. And, many of the words that are illustrated start interesting conversations with my 3 y.o. For instance, I had to explain the difference between a robber and a cat burglar. I can't think where else this would have come up!

Don't like it as well as Seasons by Blexbolex
This book is ok. Just ok. The illustrations are great, as in the seasons book (LOVE the Seasons book), but I just didn't care for the subject matter in this book as much. We had great conversations in reading Seasons, but this book led to uncomfortable ones. Like, for example, the depiction of dead people (corpse). Yes it is true life, and I don't necessarily fault the author for putting it in the book, but for our purposes (preschool and kindergarten aged children), some of the "people" in this book weren't appropriate for our bedtime routine. If you are reading it with older children I'm sure they would really enjoy it.

Some of the "people" are pretty advanced topics (cadaver
This book is really rad! my 18-month old loves it. Some of the "people" are pretty advanced topics (cadaver, beggar, etc.) but I think it'll be good to open that conversation when she's older.

Difficult to give a label
Taste is subjective, this is certainly an attractive book image wise, but why such poor newsprint quality paper and the wide stitching showing? Perhaps a misguided attempt at emulating the paper the prints were originally printed on? Certainly a conundrum as to who the reader is, or what age this book is aimed at, big bold images on the page make the book look ‘arty’ as a crossover book for pre- school children and adults but in our case it didn’t work for either age group.

A great book that can be used on so many levels by many kinds of people. I felt free to make up my own story to connect the pictures and follow the various spontaneous interests of my twins.

bellissimo

Great book from a great illustrator
Love this book. This is my first Blexbolex book, and it's not going to be my last. I was originally looking to buy Blexbolex's Seasons, but seeing this was an earlier release, I opted for this instead. It's a great coffee table book. Found myself flicking through again and again. Plus this is easily the best price around.
