Viper's Blood is superb and arguably the best of the series to date
Surprised at the low number of reviews registered to date, surely fans of the Blackstone series have an opinion. Viper's Blood is superb and arguably the best of the series to date. Its intense and action-packed storyline is filled with great characters - historical and fictitious - everyone plays a vital contribution in making this book a fantastic read. What I find interesting in this book, is that there are no good or bad guys. Each side pusues their aims and are prepared to perform the most hideous of tasks to reach their goals. Although Thomas Blackstone is the main character around whom the story evolves, he is by no means a saint. However, the 100 years Anglo- French War was a horrific period for both warring sides and must have brought out the worse from all involved and the author allows the reader to feel part of this period in history and be able to judge the characters. There was an incident towards the end of the story which even as fiction would be highly improbable which very slightly spoiled a brilliant overall story. However, I have nothing but high praise for the "Master of War" series as a whole and especially this latest instalment titled "Viper's Blood".

Top quality historical fiction. A masterful author.
Love top rate historical fiction in which the development of the main characters enhances the storyline and draws the reader in. David Gilman's series does this superbly and leaves the reader wanting more, eagerly anticipating the next instalment. I can thoroughly recommend the series to all fans of the likes of C.J.Sansom, S.J.Parris, Rory Clements etc
