Lonely Planet Montenegro 3 (Travel Guide)

A useful companion for your trip
I spent 8 days in Montenegro, and this guide was extremely useful throughout. You certainly can find all of the information online, but I prefer the organized formatting of the book. I found the restaurant price rankings useful, and they were always accurate. The "Top 16" offered by this book is an excellent starting point for anyone unsure of what to do next. The country is relatively small, so you can usually accomplish a lot by traveling a fairly short distance.I will say, some of the entries are very short and could use more detail. For example, we tried to visit the prehistoric rock paintings at Lipci, but failed. We were able to follow all of the directions, but when we passed the cave as instructed, we still couldn't locate the paintings above us. Outside of the bay and riviera, there aren't that many tourists around Montenegro, so you will have to rely on detailed directions to find sites outside the busy zones. Thanks to this book, you will be able to discover a lot of sites that are off the beaten path. Overall, I would say it is worth bringing with you. The sections about Montenegrin culture and history are necessary to truly appreciate your visit!

The only complete guide I could find on Montenegro
Lonely Planet generally produce a good product, but in the case of Montenegro, this has been a real boon. There isn't much out there from other sources, including Rick Steves, whom I generally like. It's a skinny little book, but it's a skinny little country, so there you go. Everything you need to know, with the usual Lonely Planet caveats: not enough info on transportation or local guides as provided in the Steves' books. Nevertheless, if you're going to Montenegro, buy this. You'll need it.

Hugely Helpful!
I travel extensively and always use Lonely Planet guides as a loose guide to where to go/what to see. This guide was no exception - wonderfully written and informative, with a shocking amount of information and suggestions for such a tiny country! Highly recommended, as always

This needs a new author
I usually find lonely planets to be super helpful and thorough. Who ever chose the coffee shop traveler to write this one never left their hotel. So much about Montenegro was missing from the book. The best and most helpful part was the section on dubrovnik and the walled city. You're better off just printing a map and checking a few travel blogs, and skip this book. Such a shame, especially since Montenegro is amazing.

Highly Recommended!
Very useful!! Great guide to the best places to visit, what roads to take and what roads to avoid. The best restaurants. This book was my essential reference on a recent trip to Montenegro. Includes guide to Dubrovnik in Croatia.

Informative but repetitive
I quickly scanned this book and read select sections as part of a planned trip to Montenegro. The specific areas that I concentrated on were repeated in two or three places in the book with almost exact repetition. I did find out what I felt I needed at this time and will revisit as my trip becomes more immanent.
