Cute and fun but pricey
This is such a cute item and I couldn’t resist, even if it does suggest that it’s more for small dogs. I have a medium cocker spaniel so while not quite the target size, I thought she would still get enjoyment out of snuffling and playing. There are 8 little carrots that each sit in their own little ‘pots’ on the mat. The pots are made out of a very sturdy felt so I do think it would take a lot for them to lose their shape. Each carrot has a squeaker in it and has a cut-out section allowing you to hide small snacks or biscuits into the carrots themselves, as well as in the ‘pots’. Each carrot has a very clear part on the seam which was left open to fill it with stuffing and the squeaker, and then stitched up after the fact. But this gives an area for a dog to get hold of the stitching and rip the thing to shreds if it wanted to. It hasn’t happened yet but there’s still time! The mat is quite sturdy and while it’s got a non-slip base on it, I’m not sure that’s particularly relevant what with the tugging and pulling that the mat’s going to endure. We started by putting the treats in the bottom of the pots but my dog’s snout was just a wee bit too large to be able to get her face down and grab the treats. To her credit, she did figure out that she needed to turn the mat upside down to dislodge the treats which I was particularly proud of! She was much happier when the treats were in the carrots themselves and would happily pull each one out its pot and grab the treat. The dog did lose interest quite quickly with this, I realise part of which is because I wasn’t planning to keep feeding her treats upon treats. Also, she hasn’t chosen it to play with it on her own volition, despite me leaving it out and easily accessible. The product claims that 10 minutes of snuffling equals 1 hour of running which made me laugh and wish that was the same for humans. Not that I believe that for a second. And even if it was true, I think all the calories in the treats you use for the snuffling would negate any benefits anyway. My final point is in regards to the price. At the time of my review it’s priced at £23.68 which is just a tad too expensive in my opinion. I would think that £12 would be a better price, even though it was fun for the dog and so cute. 4 stars from me.

Well made and our cats show considerable interest all 3 snuffling about and searching for the food
Food can be placed between the tubes and inside them by removing the carrots. It seems to hold up its structure well when the cats are shoving it about and pawing at it.I suspect that our ginger tom will figure out how to take the carrots out first. He's already made an effort at batting them away and he tends to be dexterous and not use his mouth as much for getting to things but I think he will figure out how to lift the carrots out.All three of them have snuffled about to eat the food that we put between the tubes rather than inside them. They have been pretty good at that and appear to have enjoyed the hunt. The cats have also used their paws between the tubes to get at the food and again I think when they figure out how to take the carrots out they will use their paws to get at the food in the tubes. However I have only given 4 stars because I think most dogs will use their tongues to get it things which means that this really should be washed regularly and this looks and feels like washing it might potentially damage the shape. If I discover the it's easy to to clean and maintains shape I will revise the review score.

Snuffle mat
Our dogs love snuffle mats (so do the cats) and we have a few of the more standard felt mat type ones around the house. I thought they might enjoy the challenge of this one so decided to try it. Firstly it is well made from felt, has a non slip bottom, the carrots fit tightly into the containers and on the whole it is well made. Which it should be for the price !!!!! So having let them see me put their favourite treats under the carrots I awaited developments. Our lazier dog had a sniff, tried pawing the carrots out (which I did not push back all the way as they are a very tight fit) and decided it was too much trouble. Our other dog loves a challenge and he tried to pull the carrots out but succeeded only in moving the mat. I encouraged him to put a paw on the mat to hold it, he got the idea quickly and it is now his favourite toy, well the treats are. As an aside the cats love the discarded carrots and play with them so for us it is win win, a tad expensive though.

the carrots have squeakers in them
I was offered this product to review and didn't notice the price when I ordered it.It is totally made out of felt, with an anti slip surface under it. The carrots made of felt have squeakers inside them and fit quite tightly into the felt holders in the base, this makes it quite difficult for my dog to remove the carrots having sniffed the treats underneath them. I had to place them in really loosely so that he was able to get to the treats. The product worked quite well in that the dog sniffed the various holes until he found the ones with treats. Now for the price, when writing this review I checked the price of the product, I think someone has misplaced the decimal point. I was expecting this product to be between £7 and £10, when I read £45!!!! i was so shocked, I am sure it is a mistake as there is no way this felt mat is worth more than about £102 stars for the idea and quality of the build but there is no way that the price can be right

Costly, challenging carrots
The media could not be loaded. This carrot dog toy feels like a cheap knock off of the expensive one we currently have. However this toy is an incredible £45! Pricey…and oh, dear! The carrots are overstuffed so that some stuffing is actually slightly bulging through the stitches. I found it quite hard to get the carrots back in once extricated and initially, I did not think our 14-month old Labrador would be able to achieve even pulling these out! This toy certainly challenged her and this is a good thing - and she finally extracted the carrots from their base. A carrot aficionado, I do think our dog was disappointed that these were not real although the discovery of a squeak did excite her. The squeak is a great addition. (which our version does not have).
