Still not sure how I feel about it
I dithered over what rating to apply to this. I went with 4 as the writing is excellent and I think it's an important work to read. However, I think that it's best suited to people who need to understand anxiety and mental illness rather than someone who experiences situations just like these in the book every day with a loved one. I loved the ending. I saw hope for Gilda, and I really connected with Eleanor. She reminded me of myself. I absolutely recommend it and ask you to form your own thoughts about it as I feel every individual will take something different from it based on their experiences

unique, great book!
Absolutely love the premise of this and it is certainly a very unique book. It’s an excellent depiction of mental health issues and obsession with de*th. I felt very ‘seen’ at times, with those thoughts you think you’re the only person to have! For a (relatively) short book I was also impressed at just how many issues it manages to talk about without feeling packed.

A modern existential classic
OK, this may not be (or it maybe?) in the same league as the dark existential novels of Sartre or Camus but it’s remarkably close. In an odd way, this is a remarkably uplifting read.Life IS pointless...it has NO inherent meaning but that’s the point: we’re all free to be whatever we want to be. All any of us can do is try and live our lives as meaningful (to us) as we can. We’re born into a losing struggle and, like Gilda in this book, it can oftentimes all become too much. But (when you think about it) if there is no reason to be happy then (existentially speaking) there’s also no reason to be unhappy: because life is pointless and with no inherit meaning we can CHOOSE to be happy (mental illness aside). Find what works for you. Only you are fit to judge the meaning you assign to your life. The message in this wonderful book is that we’re all in the same boat. How you deal with that it is down to you but it need not be (necessarily) all bleak...“There is no meaning...and so because of that there is YOUR freedom...”You’re free to find your own meaning!Go for it.Buy ‘n’ Enjoy

A study of Depresssion
I really enjoyed this. The author has nailed what it's like to live with depression in a sometimed hilarious, sometimes sad novel about a young woman just trying to survive. Her layman's take on Catholicism is hilarious. I just with it had been set in Glasgow. It would have been perfect.

Good but very dark
I'm a bit unsure whether I liked this book or not. I read it inside 24 hours so I suppose it was certainly compelling. It was well-written, thought-provoking and relatable but darker and much more focused on the protagonists (pretty severe) mental illness than on any mystery around Grace's death which was not what I expected. For someone with mental illness this could be both very relatable but also a bit triggering. I guess I'd say it was a good, worthy book but not 'fun' to read.

Unusual, funny, sad and thought- provoking
An unusual story told by an unusual young woman in a very authentic way. At times stretching the reader’s belief ( would anyone even halfway perceptive really want to continue a relationship with such an obviously disturbed woman careless about her personal hygiene)? In spite of that, a well- written story that elicited a great deal of compassion and empathy for the main character. Worth reading.

Not my fave
Everyone in this Room will Someday Be Dead is an interesting novel about a girl called Gilda. Gilda appears to have an OCD, she is fatalistic and obsessive. As a young gay woman you would hardly find her to be working in a church but by chance she finds herself getting a job there. What unfolds is a mystery and the actions of a self-destructive characters.I would be lying if I said I loved this book but I did like Gilda as a character and I enjoyed going on her journey with her.

Very evocative and a good story
This was a real "step inside another person's mind" read. Very evocative of the feelings and thoughts. Beautifully written.
