Wires are definitely 18 gauge copper (or possibly even thicker)
Arrived with some of the wires tangled inside, so it took about 5-10 min to work at them gently and untangle. After that I was able to wind and unwind many times without any problem. You may want to remove the rivet that holds it together and install a bolt so you can access the inside if they ever get twisted again. I guess -1 star for that. For my application I don't need three wires, but I needed to make sure these really are 18 gauge. I removed the green wire, cut it open, and measured the copper with a very accurate caliper. The wires are indeed fully copper and are actually even thicker than 18 gauge, which is better in every way. +1 star for being a quality product that is exactly what they advertised. Maybe +1 more star for being even thicker than 18 gauge? To the person who gave a one-star rating after they tried to "give some power to a motorcycle battery" in an "18v environment" and found "overheating within just a couple seconds"... Seriously?? It's about Amps not voltage. A motorcycle battery is capable of delivering 300 Amps. Even 'dead', it would still be able to source or sink way more than the 4-8 Amps that an 18gauge wire can handle. Take a look at any legitimate car charger and you'll see that have wires that are way thicker than 18 gauge. Car chargers with 'thin' wires, like the ones that go from cigarette lighter to lighter, will limit the amount of current so they don't fry their wires. I'm guessing you connected two batteries directly together and overheated the wires immediately due to too much current. In any event, you obviously pumped more than 8 amps through the wire. Do some homework before giving a seller a one-star rating! These are perfect test leads for may uses, including automotive. Just be sure to keep in mind the current limit for 18 gauge wire. Diameter of the wire with insulation is .1" or 2.54mm without pressing down on the calipers (to avoid deforming the wire). Diameter of copper inside is about .05" or 1.27mm, making this more like a 16 gauge wire. Thickness of insulation would then be about .025" (.025+.05+.025=.1").Final note... When I cut the wire open longitudinally and measured the thickness of the insulation, I found it to be .03", which would actually imply a wire diameter of .04" (.03+.04+.03=.1") so maybe it really is exactly 18 gauge and my caliper might have been showing higher due to the twisting I had to do to the wire in order to measure it. In any event, it's definitely at least 18 gauge as advertised.Good Luck!

You think you need this, you probably don't. Still buy it though.
This seems like a solution to the "x-mas light level" ball of test leads you have in you shop, but it probably won't replace them. It has its place, when you want a specific length of test lead with no slack, but is is a PITA to roll back up so you won't use it as much as you think. It's a good product, just not as handy as one might imagine. The construction is high quality and when using it (not putting it away) I have zero complaints. It's not too expensive and might be a good addition to your bench, but it didn't revolutionize my test lead anarchy like I had hoped (how naive I can be).

Wind up Leads- Excellent
Some complained of twisting, but I had no problem. Pull them out and wind them up. Simple.

REALLY GREAT VALUE FOR THE MONEY
These retractable test leads are great value for the money spent ..they were larger than i expected , so it does not easily fit in my toolbox but is still so worth it in the amount of time and frustration i avoid by using these. the housing is not cheap plastic, seems pretty thick and sturdy, and this little tool makes it so much easier to do continuity checks and run down electrical issues. I only wish i had bought this thing sooner. One note, this is not an automatic rewind , you actually have to spin part of the housing to retract the wires in to the housing which is great because i dont have to worry about some retractable band breaking . About the only thing i have to do is tape the the plastic covering or sleeve that is over the alligator clips . if you are not careful, the plastic sleeve on the alligator clip slips off and you can cause a short or get false readings on your electrical equipment

They are fine
Working great! I do recommend them

Some diy to make it work
One of the leads lost its clip after the first use, it was simple enough to re install and crimp again but still a nuisance. Otherwise a great product.

Solide
Mécanicien automobile, il a l'air fragile et déroulé et rouler très lentement si non les 3 câbles se mêlent

If you checking resistance don't buy.
Looks exactly as is in the picture, they're pretty thin wires, also at my workplace we test resistance of modules, pumps, delicate components, the cable should read 0.00 ohms, well 😀 its not, the wires read at 1.8ohms, 2.3ohms and so on,that's disappointing since I needed them to read 0.00ohms. I will cut all the alligator clips and see where is this resistance. Anyway don't waste your money if someone wants to sell quantity over quality 👌 they will get this review. Good day customer and seller. Also I don't want my money back 😒 sending it back and going through all the channels it's just way to much work! Thank you.

Quality Assurance Problem.
Wasn’t bad for the price until I received it. The one alligator clip has no spring. So that piece is useless now. Also it’s not very user friendly when trying to rewind it up. Not worth the hassle of returning.
