If you ever need a cross over cable but can be bothered making one this little device turns any Cat5 cable into a cross over cable :-)

I was using a Cisco switch with mdix for a single device due to it using a straight through connection which I needed converting to crossover. I wanted to get rid of the switch which was using power and overkill for one device. I replaced the entire switch with this crossover adapter and it worked perfectly. I highly recommend.

Very useful for hooking up older devices and equipment that lack internal crossover. Unfortunately the adapters are a tad large which might end up blocking other ports on a computer. If you plan to use this to link older ethernet switches or hubs together, you may not be able to use an adjacent network port. Overall, a simple solution if you need to convert a patch cable into a crossover cable.

Bought this to enable a direct connection between my Mac and a NAS instead of going via a switch. Doing so cut the response times almost by half. Having a crossover adapter means I have a choice of existing cables to use depending on where I move my Mac/NAS, so it's more flexible solution than buying a crossover cable. Plus there are two adapters in the pack, and being bright red means I am much less likely to mislay them.

These crossover adapters may work under certain conditions but the design is such that for many applications they simply won’t fit. For example, if you are connecting to something like a network switch or hub using this device, you may not be able to plug anything into adjacent ports due to the large size of this device getting in the way. Additionally, the port I needed to plug this device into would not accept this device at all as the plug does not project far enough out of the red plastic casing for it to connect properly. My advice is to buy something else.
