This version ( just not to be confused, we're talking about the one with Costner holding the American flag which contains an extended version of the original theatrical film ) is arguably a real work of art, carefully augmented by great scenes which obviously were only cut because the original movie was already very long. This version is about four hours long and adds a LOT to the original film, whether it adds context or depth to certain characters. The visual quality of this version exceeds any other version of this movie I've seen. The images are crystal clear and even though this movie is old, it aged wonderfully well and today's epic movies PALE in comparison to the high scale scenes and the practical effects utterly eclipse today's CGI. This, my friends, is what I consider the peak of American cinema and any movie fan, Kevin Costner fan, American history fan NEED to buy it. One of the best films ever made, period.
