Lower Duct Changeover Valve Hose for Dyson DC40, DC42, DC50, DC51 Series

A very cheap and fairly easy repair, the part itself is good quality and fitted exactly. Very happy my Dyson is working again

Part is the same as the original, as it should be. A little fiddly to fit, but there are some excellent videos on YouTube. I followed the video step wise and paused as each phase was completed. Took about an hour.

The rubber seal on the OEM product is welded to the plastic duct attachment ring but on this cheap replacement it is not and it is a struggle to keep it in place when fitting. Advice: bond the seal to the plastic using a suitable adhesive.

Flimsy rubber seal so does not seat properly. It falls off during use, This valve is therefore unsuitable for purpose.

This was ordeed to replace the original which had split and whenever we used the hoover thee was a very loud whistling noise. My son replaced the original and no more whistling and pick up was back to how it should be.

We assumed our Dyson had a blockage somewhere as the suction went. It was barely powerful enough to Hoover up a feather!Upon inspecting I noticed the valve hose had started to simply crumble. No surprise as it’s constantly flexing when in use.I found a simple detailed video on YouTube and followed the steps. Please note: you need to invest in a screwdriver set that has the heads required for dyson’s screws.The lower valve hose whilst not too difficult to replace, isn’t for someone who has never used tools nor taken anything apart before. I recommend placing parts and screws securely together and noting which parts they’re from. It makes it a doddle to fit everything back in its rightful place when putting the Hoover back together.I would also suggest cleaning it while you have things apart.From here on out, I’ll be regularly inspecting the hoses and replacing as soon as they show signs of wear.

The black rubber on the end comes off too easily and it’s really awkward to put on a vacuum cleaner

Fitting to Dyson DC50 was a little fiddly with the spring, however took only 30 minutes all in. Suction power of the brush head is transformed and like new I would say. A very worthwhile fix. The part itself is OK, not as good as an original but way cheaper etc. Operation is fine and so far no complaints only relief I don't need to buy a new Dyson. Will need T15 and T8 Torque bits to remove the relevant screws. There are plenty of YouTube videos on how to fit.

For my DC40, this replacement worked well and fit perfectly ONCE you could get to it.It was not really easy to install but youtube videos helped a lot. Out of all the parts in a DC40, this is the ONLY part that requires all the effort to replace since you need torx bits, videos for guidance and patience. If you are handy, then you can do this - just keep track of your screws and where you got them from.I am rather surprised that that this was the only part that was not user serviceable without tools. All the rest of the DC40 is and also my DC14 (really old one) is all user serviceable.This was good price and prevented me from throwing an otherwise good vacuum away.Quality seemed fine but only time will tell. This is a high flex part, so I don't know yet. I'll post an update is it rips or fails within a year.Annnd no, I was not compensated in any way for this.
