What is the demenisions for the opening on the seat? Could this be used for a 6 year old?

Seat opening is slightly oval. Measures 9.5 inches front to back & 8 inches side to side of opening

Can it get wet? What material is it made ?" about

It is metal and plastic, for the price it worked well. However if you plan to put in a shower you will have a problem. It has adjustable height legs. The legs thus have holes in them. When you put in shower the water runs down the inside through the holes. You have to take the rubber feet off the ends of each leg and make sure to get the inside of legs dry. The commode part is removable and the chair fits easily over any toilet we had. Once over the toilet is is sturdy enough for someone to push up on the arms. There are a lot nicer ones that will last longer but this was all we needed for the limited time use. If you plan to use in shower and not get legs dry each time, I would expect it to last about 6 months to a year before it rusts out and breaks. The toilet seat and commode bucket are plastic. They can get wet. We used Bleach Wipes to clean. Can't find them in stores but you can on amazon. Hope this helps in your decision.
