Always liked Sharp Carousel
This is replacement for exact same microwave that just stopped working after several years. It's a great microwave and perfect size for the space. Fingers crossed it lasts a lot longer. Great price here, too, on Amazon.

Twenty years and still working.
Considering I just bought this SHARP ZSMC1132CS Carousel 1.1 Cu. Ft. 1000W Countertop Microwave Oven with Orville Redenbach a few months ago you must be thinking I am kidding you when I say it has been working well for twenty years. Actually, we bought an identical unit twenty years ago and have been using it every day for twenty years. A few months ago our old one emitted a very loud bang while I was using it to heat something for a couple minutes. I was startled and it actually made me jump it was so loud. I continued to heat whatever it was I was heating and it made that same loud bang again. I went to my computer and ordered a new SHARP ZSMC1132CS Carousel 1.1 Cu. Ft. 1000W Countertop Microwave Oven with Orville Redenbach and it was delivered in two or three days. Meanwhile, our old one is still working well, no more banging noise. So the new one is still in the shipping box, unopened, and I am waiting for the 20-year-old unit to quit working before I install the new one. I highly recommend this microwave.

OVEN PANEL A DISTINCTLY NEGATIVE OPERATING FEATURE
A very good, well made oven with good performance features. However, a VERY BIG, PRACTICAL NEGATIVE is the fact that the operating touch panel is virtually unreadable. The light in my kitchen is at what would be considered a very normal level, but the glossy, glass operating panel is NOT BACKLIT OR LIT in any way while featuring very low contrast gold lettering which easily merges into a totally black background. To see the correct numbers or lettering on the operating panel -- especially if the oven is not in highly familiar, constant use -- one has to resort to using a flashlight or simply guess as to whether or not the correct number has been pressed. Not a good situation to be in when using any kind of kitchen appliance. The appliance would be rated considerably higher if not for this glaring, highly impractical, operating deficiency.

Broken Carousel Plate
We bought this as a replacement for the same model we have had for many years. The package arrived with little external damage, but the carousel plate was completely destroyed. Why they started packing this outside the microwave, at the end, is beyond me. It seems you could better protect the glass inside the microwave. There are no options besides a total return. I found that to be rather ridiculous so I bought a replacement plate also. The microwave, and new plate, work fine. I did notice that the molded plug/cord is now shorter than before. I guess that saves a few pennies.

It now only accepts full-minute times
I just bought this thing 18 months ago. Now when I want to heat something for, say 1 minute and 30 seconds I'll push the 1 and then the 3. When I push the 3 nothing happens and then it starts the countdown 1 minute. I am not happy!

Typical Japanese Weird Controls
This is a decent microwave, though not as easy to use as my old Panasonic, and the high setting isn't as high as most microwaves. You need to enter an extra 30 seconds for TV dinners. It took me a week to figure out that if you wanted to enter a specific amount of time, you can't just enter the time on the keyboard. If you do so, it just defaults to the number of minutes indicated by pressing a single key. In order to actually specify the cooking time, you need to press the TIME COOK button. I am reminded of some early Japanese digital watches where you had to press several buttons more than once to set the time.I would recommend this oven for those who want a fairly small footprint microwave with a reasonable volume and don't mind a bit of annoyance learning to use it.

The Carousel in a nutshell...sucks... and is irritating.
Constantly resetting the ring into the groove. The rotating plastic ring does not stay in the slot/groove so the glass plate slides off and items then don't rotate. Probably doesn't deserve a "3". Would not buy again.

Bad purchase. Returned
First, just by the weight and the little black electric wire, you can see that it is not high quality, and the stainless steal on top is thin and cheap. I should have returned it just out of the box but I thought I'd give it a chance. We used it about 10 times. It makes a funny background noise when it spins and the turntable stops every quarter of a turn, which is not normal. The panel is very difficult to read. Annoying blue light on the clock. The Orville popcorn feature is a catch, all microwaves have the same feature when you take the time to read all the instructions booklet. Returned it and we bought a Toshiba at WM which is much better quality for less.

Disappointed
I'm not happy with this microwave. It takes a very long time to heat the food. I've only had it 2 weeks and I'm really withing I hadnt thrown out the packaging, because if I hadnt I'd be returning it!I heated up a slice of lasagna for 3 MINUTES and the out side is burning hot, while the middle is STILL cold! That's rediculous

Compact, powerful, attractive
Good looking, compact, and user friendly. Our 20 year old Sharp starting to wear out so we wanted to replace it with a good looking on counter model. We are very happy with our replacement.
