Miss EliMae's Slow Feeder
Miss EliMae is a very picky feral cat that I adopted five years ago. Her nick name at her foster home was fat cat๐คฃ. I thought she was healthy. Over the years though she overeats. But like I said she is picky. I have tried other slow feeders. She just wouldn't take to it. Sent them back. This one however she is able understand how to use it. She is eating 50%. Yes. Cats cannot loose weight to fast. I believe she will eventually lose the five pounds needed to be at twenty. She is a British Shorthair which are heavier, bigger, & big boned cats. She is very sturdy, very muscular, & very fast despite her size. The reason for her to lose weight is so she won't have a heat attack. One of my mainecoons had a heart attack one morning. Cried out it pain. And he never cried out. As soon as we can we went to the vet and put him to sleep since they could do nothing for him. He was such a sweet boy. We miss him. Eventually we all die but we can do our part. Like I said my cat is a princess. She has to have things her way.

It is plastic and huge
I have a bit of an addiction to slow feeders. I think this is about the tenth one I have got. Some, the cats won't even touch, and some they take ages to get used to or lose interest in after a few weeks. It is always a gamble, no way to know ahead of time which ones your pets will enjoy. So far I am not happy with this one.It is plastic not melamine so you have to worry about the microscopic scratches that harbor bacteria (google cat acne if you don't know what I'm getting at! Took us 2mo of washing their chins with special soap to get rid of that issue so we do not want a repeat). I sanitize the puzzles with boiling water after washing them with unscented soap once a week to keep things hygienic. This puzzle is a bit of a bother for that chore, being almost too big to fit in a standard sink. it does wedge in there at a bit of an angle. Rinsing something that big makes a bit of a mess. The bottom doesn't have a flat sheet of plastic attached it is just the back of the same pattern so lots of nooks and crannies to hold moisture, making it a pain to dry as well. And because it isn't raised on feet to allow air underneath you have to get the bottom fully dry before you can put it back on the floor. The hugeness is also a pain at washing time because to dump the old crunchies out, I generally hold the puzzles over a cookie sheet. This thing sends crunchies flying past the edges of that so I have to run around sweeping them up.On the bright side, it seems very durable, not too thin. The holes are big enough that even a large cat can get their arm in easily, yet small enough they can't get their muzzle in. I think most of the holes are deep enough they would be dog proof which is great if you have issues with your dog eating your cat's food.I find it aesthetically pleasing and am thankful for the drab coloring, which is much less eye catching than the tacky bright colors most slow feeder/food puzzle designers pick. But the bottom line is, unfortunately they won't use it. After a couple months, in a home with five cats, even with putting treats in it, nobody will use it. I'm not sure why. I had thought that maybe since it's softer material it absorbed that amazon stink, so I put it outside in the sun and rain for awhile to make sure it was nice and odorless, but that did not help. Could they dislike the way the tubes reflect sound or something? I have no idea. Their favourite food puzzle is the Catit Digger which is essentially the same- just vertical tubes. So I thought this would be a winner for sure. I'm completely mystified that they ignore it. I just keep filling it up then on puzzle washing day I dump it out, clean it and refill it with fresh food, and try again. I guess I will keep trying for another month then if they still don't want it I'll give it away.

Don't buy
Came dirty. Seller not responsive. This product came dirty and what appeared to be used. It is advertised for both dogs and cats. This is too deep for an average cat or dog under 10 pounds to use. Perhaps a Maine Coon or Siberian would benefit from it.

Not works for regular feed
I bought this product but I returned it. My cat was not comfortable with it for regular food. It was too deep and he became frustrated with eating food. I used it for two days to familiarize my cat with it, but he didn't eat his food for more than 20 hours. Finally, I gave up and returned it. I think it is just suitable for treats, not regular foods.
