The screws that hold the hot knife on keep backing out. When they get even a little loose it stops heating and working.

Great project item for a great price

I purchased this to cut and seal polyester ribbon. It would be great if there were two options for the heat setting. It obviously has to get super hot to cut through thick ROPE and I find that while I’m cutting RIBBON, the heat is much too hot and at times, causes the ribbon to catch on fire. The way around that is to be super fast when running it through and get it off the blade quickly as possible. I also have a hot wire cutter and find I cannot use this item at the same pace (fire). Because of the very high heat, it also creates A LOT of THICK SMOKE during the cutting process and the smell of smoke is left in the air for some time. Frankly, while they’re right it DOES cut polyester ribbon, it should probably be marketed more for ropes and things of the type of thickness since the heat cannot be adjusted and it’s actually a cutting blade opposed to a wire. If purchasing, I’d recommend using a small fan to divert the smoke, an air purifier, and a hard face mask to prevent breathing in the thick smoke.

We are avid backpackers, sea kayakers, hikers, campers, travelers, and nature enthusiasts. We have many things that have ropes, guy lines, straps, tie downs, belts, nets, and so forth. All are nylon and for years I’ve been cutting them with a knife or scissors and burning the ends with matches or a lighter. I’ve never been satisfied with that process. So I finally purchased this hot knife. I cannot believe I waited so long. Stupid, really. I’ve only had it five days and I’ve used it more than a dozen times. It works beautifully and I’m very glad I got the 60 watt model - it easily cuts through thicker material and leaves perfect and clean cuts. Great buy and a quality product.

This is a great unit, especially for the price. Similar units are three times more from the sites I frequent.

Stocky unit with a steel case. Based on a few months of ownership this seems like a product built to last.

It works great and makes what I make with irsomething better and easier!

The blade is also actually sharp like a knife. Not just dependent on the heat. The blade gets HOT. Cut's our NFPA rope for rescue quicker than any others we have used.
