my mother has a 34" waist which would leave 18" left over of belt - where does this excess go?

Several possibilities occur: 1. My wife's belt has about 11" excess, and we usually just let it hang down. It is another hand hold since considerable pull does not seem to cause slippage at the buckle. 2. Just tuck the loose end in over the belt. 3. The end of the belt is folded over its self twice (giving three thicknesses about 5/8" long) and sewn across. This gives a finished end which will not pull back through the buckle. You could cut off the desired length and duplicate the present end. Be sure to heat seal the cut end to prevent raveling.

Question 2

Is the clasp in the back? Not having a picture showing person in one, it's difficult to tell how it fits and if another holder is on back side.

Yes, the clasp is in the back and what hand holds are shown in the picture are the only ones.  But I recommend putting the clasp in front and have the holds in the back.

Question 3

Is the product dimensions (	10.4 x 5.9 x 2.6 inches) correct?   Doesn’t seem consistent with description.

Hmmmm - I have no idea where they are measuring.  I measure the gait belt as 53 inches long when open, so it would fit a waist nearly that big around.  You would want a few inches of strap beyond the buckle.  The widest part of the black cloth is about 3.9 inches high, and the vertical blue straps are about 5.2 inches when flat.  We like this gait belt!  The patient finds it comfortable, and she can put it on herself with limited use of one hand.  As caregiver, I find it much easier to grab quickly if the need arises, compared to a standard gait belt.

Question 4

I'm 100lbs with a 30 inch waist, would this belt be safe for me?
