Skeg Shield works, looks good and it was unintendedly/unfortunately tested!
I purchased this back in 2014. Install was very easy. Attractive shield. I have never struck anything in the water, but I think the previous owner did because there was a small chunk taken out of the skeg and this item restored the look and function of my Bravo 3 drive. However, this year I was very unfortunate and struck a submerged shoal. We were travelling slowly, and I had just looked down to get some beef jerky from my son and it happened. I thought it was going to be bad the way the boat reacted (30 foot). Immediately I went into the mode of inspecting and checking for leaks, and even dived off the boat to inspect hull and drive. All I could be certain of, was the drive had struck. The props looked fine, and rotated nicely. Running the boat home to the marina I was testing for vibrations, and steering, and everything felt fine. The drive performed the rest of the season, although I only went out one more time on it. Now, boat is out of water for the year, and I can really inspect for damages. No hull damage, hull missed the shoal! YAY! But, the drive skeg shield took the brunt. It performed just as it should. One mounting bolt was sheared off, and the shield was bent. But, that looks to be the worst. Drive will be pulled however, serviced and repaired as necessary! I will buy a replacement shield!

All Boats Need This Guard - Why not install
I hit a sand bar and a buried rock took out a chunk out of my skew. To get it welded was going to cost $450. Ordered this. It fit on so tight. A rubber hammer was needed to lightly get it on perfect! Then, drill 2 holes and tightened with the enclosed stainless steel screws. The screws are designed to shear off if in the future you hit something hard. So I’m now asking myself why not install even if you don’t need yet.

Bravo 1 renewed Skag
took a chance and ordered it in, hoping it might work. Fit very well considering 80% of the original skag was gone when I received the boat. This installed easily. I added JB Weld Steel stick Front - Top edge of skeg and lower unit. The boat handles much better especially at lower speeds. Highly recommend.

Saved me big bucks
I broke off most of my skeg. I was not sure there was even enough left to use this item but there was and it worked great. Took me 10 minutes to install it. A great product!

So much nicer and cheaper than bending up another prop
It looks good, it goes on easy, and it fits right on my early Alpha 1 as advertised (the year is wrong--they were actually available as early as late 1983...go by the model which you should know and ignore the years which are a very loose guideline). I didn't even realize how badly my skeg had been worn away over the years until I had a mild prop strike. I wasn't paying good enough attention when launching the boat and lowered the prop too far, so that the blades flowered out when it struck the ramp concrete. It was consistent enough that it actually ran like that with little issue, but this never would've happened if the skeg had been in tact.Since adding this skeg guard, steering is a little sharper (as it would be--it's basically a small rudder) and there are no more worries about prop strikes.

Problem solved
Buy older boat. See broken skeg. Order Skegshield and bolt it on. Like new. I guess you could put this device on skeg that had no damage, but having installed these on several motors with damage to skeg and having good result that seems primary purpose. Better than having idiot aluminum welder weld on replacement skeg and overheat lower unit and turn round cavity into oval cavity (did I mention idiot welder). Avoid welded skeg replacement, use SkegShield instead.

Just buy on if you have a boat
Your skeg will get chips, this helps with the look and drive.

Does it's job
Easy to install and fits relatively well. Mounted on a 2006 Bravo 3 2.0 leg with 24P props. There was a gap between the vertical (closest to props) skeg and the guard that looks like it is too big... just an observation. This is my second purchase - ensure you use locktite on the bolts. They have a habit of coming off. When mine did the guard slid into the props and well, enough said.

Hoping this will work as advertised
When I pulled my boat out of the water last year I found that one of my skegs was damaged. When I came across these, I thought, why not try this as opposed to removing outdrive and having my skeg repaired. My boat is currently laid up for the winter so at this time I cannot comment on the quality or ease of installation.

BETTER THAN EXPECTED
This is a high quality product that turned out to be better than expected. An inexpensive and solid fix for what would otherwise be an expensive and serious problem. No apparent effect on boat speed whatsoever, but did seem correct a minor pull on the steering wheel.

A bit over priced
The price is a bit steep
