A Rainbow Bridge for Gus: A Story about the Loss of a Pet

Well Written Book
This book will make you cry, especially if you recently lost your dog. While I cried reading it to my toddler, I found it important for him to see that it’s ok to be sad and cry over such a big loss. He loves this book and I while I’m still heartbroken over the loss of our sweet pup, it also helps me. This gently eases the topic about death in with young ones. I bought quite a few and this is by far my favorite.

So amazing to help our toddler process
In trying to help my toddler understand and process losing our pup, I got several children’s books and this is by far the best. Great illustrations and message, deals with feelings and helps to see our dog has crossed the rainbow bridge to play with his puppy pals. There’s even a back page where you place a photo of your beloved pet. We did so he can remember and connect (last pic). A great interactive tool to help him feel a part of the processing of big emotions

Simple and Well Written.
We just lost the most wonderful chocolate lab recently, very unexpected and traumatic for all of us. I bought this book to help my kids cope and understand, they are 6 and 8 so death is really confusing and difficult for kids at this age, they both don't want to talk a lot about what happened right now but I hope this helps them cope with it. Coincidentally, it did rain that evening, my son said "See Mommy, I told you it rains when someone dies because the sky is sad". So I told him that after the rain there's a rainbow somewhere and Kimber (our dog) went to the rainbow bridge. This is well written and simple. Yes, it did make both my husband and I tear up, but it also is good for the soul. I also like the end that lets kids make a collage of their pet. I'm not sure how often we will read this, but we will definitely pass it on to someone else if they ever need it.

Good
It's 2 years since our dog had to put to sleep and our 5 year old still cries for her. But since getting this book he has calmed down and we have more laughs over her antics and the fun they had together than tears. Now he doesn't dissolve into tears everytime when we are talking about her, the laughter would turn to tears. Now he can properly giggle and smile without the tears coming. But we've had to read it again in the last week because one of the fish died! But it has helped him.
