It's a cover for the armrest
This is a cover for the armrest. It's not padded. It has 2 elastic bands that wrap underneath the armrest. Easy to install and took about 20 seconds. I ordered the black with black stitching. Not a bad item for the price.

Not sure if really needed...
I'm not sure that this is really needed, as I don't remember scratching or tearing any center console lid I've ever had in cars in the past.Also, this does look cheaper than the real leather covered lid (on my preferred trim level CX-5) it covers as it's made from a synthetic material. I suppose it gives you the CX-5 logo however, if that's important to you.Fit isn't bad, however they fold it for shipping, which leaves a bump once installed; as can be seen in the photos of other reviewers. That's ugly, but apparently smoothes out eventually per one reviewer.The jury is out as to whether or not I keep this.

Despite all the negative reviews, the product is as expected. Protects center island perfectly - period. It works and as described.
