MXR EVH 5150 Eddie Van Halen Overdrive Analog Guitar Effect Pedal Bundle with 4 Cables

Expensive, it’s a good overdrive, but I tend to use it NOT for the EVH sound. Noise gate is nice. A bit more versatile than I thought. In a crowded market of overdrives - not my favorite.

I was promised better cables when ordering from this seller. This was offered as a bundle. I didn't get what was pictured. Instead I received cheap rubber cables, not at all what was promised. I love the sound of the 5150 Overdrive pedal itself, in fact it's my favorite. The collectable 5150 box was smashed, looks like someone heavy sat on it. Was missing the MXR sticker, hope this pedal isn't used, was advertised as new. Also the noise gate with the pedal seems to be malfunctioning. When turned on it causes the volume to go way up and way down while playing after 15 minutes or so. Should only do that when no sound is coming through. Ups and downs with this purchase for $200 I thought that I'd at least get what was pictured. I'll buy from my local music store or Sweetwater going forward and avoid buying these through Amazon and this particular seller.

Great EVH tones with an option of more gain than you can want. Found the noise gate to be super helpful when used in conjunction with heavy overdrive. If you set the noise gate to the right level (as much as you can without hindering the initial string attack), you’ll find that you can play at high gain with cleaner execution of your chops - in other words, shred easier without hearing too much other unwanted strings ringing out. (This previous sentence applies only if your overdrive playing is fairly well controlled to begin with), but this in itself is a great unique feature of this pedal ! ENJOY.

3 pedals in 1. Overdrive, comp boost, and smart gate. Such an incredible pedal that can go from slight breakup to searing in your face distortion and gain. The comp boost is the least noticeable feature but it does work. Gives that last little push. The smart gate works perfectly.I have been buying guitar gear for 35 years and this pedal is the best overdrive I have ever owned and I have owned a lot of of the industry standards. You know what they are. 808, SD-1 etc, etc.The price seems high but try buying a tremendous od, a smart gate, and a red comp and see how much you saved not only money but pedal board space.GET ONE!

If you have a tube amp, fire up the clean channel and engage this pedal for "the" brown sound. Now only you and your fingers are to blame for not sounding like VH! I have tried many overdrives, distortions, and boosters over the years, but this one is the closest to that sound I have found. Enjoy.

Gives great breakup at a low volume for a Fender Twin Reverb. Offers many different levels of crunch from EVH to Billy Gibbons. The noise gate is very versatile and works well with single coil pickups.

Great pedal. Sound is phenomenal. Built in noise gate performs flawlessly without muffling tone! Fine addition to the board.
