The web today is comprised of trillions of links: links between websites, links within social media venues like Facebook and Twitter, and even links in email inboxes. Who links to a site and how they link to it is one of the most important factors that search engines rely on when ranking results. But how do marketers control this? Link building expert Eric Ward provides the answers. Sharing little-known techniques for link building via social media platforms, blogs, partnerships, public relations, articles, and more, Ward teaches marketers which link-building techniques will maximize the quality links that point to their site, allowing them to charm both search engines and customers and which methods to avoid. This one-of-a-kind guide details a variety of link building tools, tactics, and techniques illustrated by case studies, expert interviews, and resources. Ward leaves no opportunity unexplored, and no link-building questions unanswered. Review: This is the new BIBLE for SEO! - I received this book just a few days ago and haven't been able to put it down. I bought it based on 2 referrals, one was personally given to me over the phone from an SEO guy I pay to consult with from time to time, and the other was from Matt Cutts of Google - not directly, of course, but via the quote at the top of Mr. Ward's website. I figured anyone worthy enough to be mentioned by Mr. Cutts is certainly worthy of my attention. I'm an inventor/entrepreneur who has to wear many hats. After creating and figuring out how to manufacture my product, the next hat I wore was "web developer/online marketer." Then, after the sites were built and converting, I put on an SEO hat in order to generate more traffic. I am by no means an expert on SEO at this point, therefore, I'm always hungry for new information. I consider this book the new bible for SEO because it teaches just about everything you need to know and if you're an amateur, like me, it's best to learn the right way from the very beginning. OK. Enough fluff. Here are my observations about the book: 1. It teaches the proper mind-set for approaching link building. This is the most important part. 2. It suggests many wonderful SEO tools and the sources to get them. I have already downloaded a half dozen. 3. It suggests lots of fantastic sources of information about SEO. Sign up for free to these sites and you'll get email teasers, ebooks, etc that are full of great information. 4. Takes the guesswork out of implementing your stategy to get links directly from webmasters in related niches. 5. It inspired me to become a paid monthly member of "Link Moses", which looks to be the best $8/month anyone I'll ever invest in SEO. Because of the info provided on Link Moses, I revamped an old Ebook and am now putting it on Ebook submission sites to generate links and traffic. This is something I wouldn't have thought of otherwise. All in all, this book will exponentially shorten your SEO learning curve by simplifying the art and science of link building, and, for less than $20, it's an absolute steal. I don't know him and we've never corresponded, but many thanks, Eric, my SEO hat fits much better now. -Jason Review: Thank God for Garrett and Eric - I did a search for anything written by Garrett French, and found this book. It wasn't out yet a few weeks ago, so I had to wait, but it was worth it. As an SEO with almost 17 years experience my great weakness is link marketing, and I have read nearly every book or ebook from every big name out there. All of the big ones are good. But I keep buying books and reading because I still hadn't found what I needed. This book is one of two amazing books leading me to real success. The other is not on desertcart. For the first time in about a year of reading and searching, I found somewhere I can go to get information from the zenith of practitioners. If anyone reading this doesn't know Eric and Garrett, then you have just been introduced to the industry accepted masters of the genre. Between the advice from the two of them, I am developing a mental outline of how to do this correctly, and have begun the process. The difference between being lost in the link marketing wind and having direction is like the difference between having a sense of self and feeling alone in the world. I spoke with a good friend that is an SEO who gave me Garrett's telephone because I wanted to hire him. For almost an hour today he spoke with me. I hung up more impressed than when I called. He is a gentleman with a brain and I immediately felt like he was the kind of guy I would trust to give the keys of my house to. In fact I am in a way, because from this book came the inception for my new marketing strategy. You need to read this 2-3 times at least, because the strategies are sometimes nuanced. I have been around long enough to know good information when I read it and I no longer feel so lost in the link marketing world. Garrett and Eric are helping bring me home, or maybe I should say they are helping bring people to my home [page]. My thanks to them for the direction.

Great Book
Hi, This book is very useful, nowadays there very few real thought leaders related to link-building and the authors of the books are the most reliable ones until today.

I want to hide it from my competition... SERIOUSLY!
I've been on Amazon buying books for more then a decade and this is the first and ONLY review I have ever posted. That should give you some indication of the value I attach to this book. Eric and Garrett took a seemingly complex, shrouded in secrecy topic and exposed it to the world in a clear, concise step by step fashion. It WILL turn your link building word UPSIDE DOWN! You'll find intuitive, powerful, insights into link building. But even better.... You'll have a new and fresh perception of this huge complex thing called the internet. Prepare to be taken by the hand and gently walked through the most actionable link building steps. You'll find yourself rapidly jotting notes down while Eric and Garrett share insights that will make you feel like your head is exploding. So if you're like me... Toss all the other so called "link building" info products in the trash and prepare to finally get a thorough understanding of what you need to do to rank your pages, get the solid traffic that you've heard about and turn your site into a link magnet. One day I want to at least buy these guys lunch and soak up as much as I can from these remarkable link builders and teachers. Excellent book!

A must have title!!!
This book really is excellent! Eric gets away from the approach of so many who just try to exploit tips and tricks that have short term focus only. The Ultimate Guide to Link Building gives a rock solid basis of how to build a long-term high authority foundation of links. I am a subscriber to his Link Moses private email, and without question he is one of the few who really have "been there" and "done that" at the highest levels. He breaks down what works and doesn't, and more importantly why. In my opinion he does an excellent job relating strategies that are applicable to virtually every industry. It's a step-by-step guide for the newbies, and plenty of advanced techniques for the pros. And most importantly, you can feel confident when you follow his plan you won't have to be looking over your shoulder wondering if Google is going to penalize the blood, sweat, and tears you've put into your online marketing efforts.

Half BAD, half ok.
I just got done reading the whole Ultimate Guide to Linking book. I didn't think it would be fair to review without reading the whole thing. I bought this book because it had high reviews. Joost de Valk, the Yoast SEO guy, promoted the book. "Read it twice" he said... Joost even wrote a section in one of the last couple of chapters. I have to start with the negative as this was what I felt through most of the book. This wasn't an easy read. Most of the time I felt like I was reading an out of touch academic book. There's not a lot of practical hands on instruction; do this, do that. I started this book excited. Chapter 1 went by. I thought, "OK! It's an intro! He's building up to some good advice!" Chapter 2, much of the same. I thought, "That's fine, it's a big book! Gotta build up to it!" Chapter 3 and 4 went by. By chapter 5, I realized that the book was going to be that way. I just forced myself to press on. Quite a lot of the tools/websites mentioned are things you need to pay for. The middle of the book is good up until Chapter 24 until the end. Chapter 24 was about link building lessons from 6 SEO dudes you probably don't know. I got the feeling most of them were just writing as an advertisement for their own businesses. The last of those 6 SEOs was Mike Grehan. That dude wrote 13 of the most boring pages in this book. What he said can all be summarized in a paragraph that you might actually remember. "The rich get richer, so start getting rich so you can get richer!" Or, get a lot of links, then you'll start naturally getting more links! Finally, Chapter 25... written by Jon Cooper. It had a few good pieces of advice. I was very turned off by how much he spammed his webpage. It's a chapter basically begging for you to visit his site as he throws his URL at the end of almost every paragraph. It does have some ok advice here and there, but man... The book DID have a few good chapters consistently. It's almost like this book was written by 2 separate people, and it was! I just wonder who wrote what. I hope it was Eric who wrote the middle to end sections. Now for the positive. There's good advice here, it just comes late. I forced myself to push on through the whole book, and i'm glad I did. Chapter 15-23 was good. It changed my view of how backlinking should work. There's just no easy way to say it. It's all about emailing people and asking them to link to your content. The authors show how they have done that through the years. Note that this is a pure white hat linking book. For a book so thick, I thought it would at least cover more gray / black hat link building strategies, at least the good ones anyway. I think the book could have been condensed. It would have been nice to have Eric do a walk through of something like an example campaign. I'm still not even 100% sure what a link campaign is! Writing down all of the link prospects and keywords or something? The book didn't define it before it started talking about it. This book is like a steak with lots of fat and bone that needs to be cut. It's got good stuff, just hard to get it.

Planting Seeds
I am a relative newcomer to the business of search engines, content and linking. Being naturally curious and of an analytical mind, I am always looking for ways make sense of large data structures. I have finally found a resource book that fits my thinking, lays open the world of content and links in a fascinating manner and has planted seeds in my business model for literally years of future research, exploration, study and growth. Just starting with the first suggestion in the book has resulted in a journey of almost two weeks that has led to places unseen in my previous efforts. This is exactly what I need to get an overview of not only my verticals, but also to find ways to branch out into the broader marketplace. I find this information to be invaluable, it negates so many other potentially damaging avenues that promise quick success in market presence and branding, and it will be beneficial to all from the novice to the expert. Thank you Eric and Garrett for putting into writing the definitive word on the underlying structure of the Internet.

A highly trusted source for healthy links
Eric and Garrett are two of the best link builders in the world. I own an Internet marketing company and have paid Eric for training over the years and he is truly helpful and amazingly full of knowledge / experience that won't get you in trouble with Penguin. Now that Google is much smarter about links - which ultimately is a good thing - you have to be more like a creative shop and publisher to build relationships around and to your quality content than a technologist spamming people. Beyond link building it is about connecting with people, building community and sharing your knowledge / content. Build links in a way that even of Google did not exist they would still matter and drive converting traffic...This book will show you how. I am also just seeking training with Garrett and to use his tools at Citation Labs since it is so hard to do 100% manually. I also just bought the link building book by Sage Rock but haven't jumped in yet...Nice to finally see some books on just link building...

Genial
Franco

If You Want Action - This Book Is For You
This is the best books on link building (and in fact it is the best SEO book) that I have ever read. The book goes into just enough technical detail to give you an idea of what is going on behind the scenes without becoming bogged down in the technical data that a number of other books have suffered from. What I liked most about this book was that it gave real world examples of how to build links in a multitude of real world niches. While many other books talk about how to get link in popular sectors, in this book we learn how to build links in markets that aren't glamourous. Not only does this book teach you the science of building links - each chapter gives you everything that you could possibly need to go out and do it yourself without having to read on to find out why. After years in the SEO space, this book is the closest thing to a magic bullet that has ever been produced.
