Q: what type of handle does it have?

Hard plastic. Hollow, but sturdier than I would have thought. A medallion-y bulb at the bottom of the hilt. The handle part of the hilt has little ornamental brass accents. All in all, pretty cool.

There are Velcro straps on inner shield.

This sword and shield are plastic.

It is one sided. The only down fall is the Velcro pieces rips easily.
