Great book, but received a damaged copy. It's a book, so chose not to get it replaced, but logging it here so folks know.

There are dozens of books on 'theory of everything'. I have found almost all of them completely useless including this book. Any attempt to develop a theory of everything must take into account all existing scientific theories --- beginning from the origin of the universe to its evolution, behaviour of energy, matter, elements and compounds, stars and galaxies, and plants, animals and humans.This book does not even attempt to do this.It is merely a discussion on several general topics selected in a haphazard way. Even those discussions do not appear to have any depth and deep insight. Even after reading this book, you would not have a better understanding of what this universe with all its varied contents is all about and how it operates.

Así es como deberían estar escritos los libros de ciencia, donde te explican desde cero como construyo su propuesta y lo hace sin términos científicos tan rebuscados.Gran libro para los que buscan como se ve el esbozo de una teoría unificada y además si quieres entender temas como física cuántica, teoría de la computación de Turing, epistemología de Popper y teoría de la evolución de Darwin y Dawkins.

文体が非常に凝っていて、英文精読の勉強になる。内容も中々面白い。

子供の頃「人類がこれまでに得た知識をすべて理解することは出来ない」と言われて愕然としたが、これを「信じることを拒んだ」という書き出しで本書は始まる。読み進むにつれ、その理由が見えて来る。子供の頃に言われたこの言葉に反駁するのが、著者の狙いなのだ。　本書の主張は、この世界を記述する最良の理論が存在し、我々はそれを正しく理解すべきだ、という一点につきる。その理論とは、量子力学の多世界解釈、テューリングによる計算論の拡張版、ドーキンスの利己的な遺伝子に基づく進化論、そしてポパーの認識論である。　中でも著者の世界観の根幹をなすのが、この世界のコピーが無数に存在するという理論物理学の少数派意見、すなわち「多世界解釈」だ。昨今注目を集めている量子コンピュータの動作を、この多世界解釈に基づいて説明するくだりは圧巻である。（ちなみに著者は量子コンピュータの理論を作った本人である。）　しかし本書の真価は、物理学からは一見遠い分野－－生物の進化や人間の自由意志など－－を、多世界解釈で大胆に説明している点にある。その理論展開は突飛ながらも論理的で、思わず首肯する説得力がある。また数学と物理の関係を論じ（「数学の本質」）、唯我論を否定する論拠を挙げ（「実在の基準」）、科学の手法に慣れ親しんだ人々が無批判に受け入れている前提を問い直す。　物理学、数学、生物学、そして哲学を自在に行き来しながら世界観を語る。ケタはずれの学者がいたものである。

～この種の科学解説書の中でも、最も出来の悪い俗悪な本だと思った。物理学の解説の形態はとっているものの、全編を通じてて洞察を欠いており、冗長で退屈である。5つ星のカスタマーレビューにつられて買ったが、返金してもらいたいとさえ思った。数多くの物理学の解説書を読んできたがこれほど購入を後悔した本は初めてである。しかし、不眠症で悩んでいる人に～～はぴったりの本かもしれない。～
