My Favorite Author, Miss Him Like An Old Friend
Stuart McLean succumbed to cancer a few years ago. His storytelling talents have been missed and so have the characters that he created. Read everything written by Stuart and you will be better for having done so.

made me laugh... made me cry ... what more can anyone ask?
A wonderful book by a wonderful author ... It's rare to laugh out loud more than a few times with any book -- this one had me in stitches many many times.Parents and pet owners especially will like this book.Reading it, you get to experience your own Self ... And to laugh at that Self... Also have the opportunity to be deeply touched by love and relationship. Such a fun time!!

Next best thing to Stuart's show
If you are a Stuart and Vinyl Cafe fan, you'll love this, although it is somewhat jarring to "hear" Stuart in prose if you're an addict if his phenomenal oral storytelling skills. One if the stories had much more details than the oral version I'd heard, but this just made his tight oral skills even more impressive. I think people unfamiliar with the radio show would still enjoy it.

Enjoyable Comedy
After listening to Mr. McLean's stories on CBC radio, I was interested in how well his stories convert over to print and found them to be just as good as his radio show. They might be too tame for some, but they are humorous looks at real life that I often find myself thinking I might do something similar to some of the characters.

Fun and Funny
Stuart McLean is a good, funny light read. He makes it all seem so believable with a timing sense, that even though you can see the joke coming it builds so well that when he delivers his joke it is hilarious. I read it to my 11 year old granddaughter.

Definitely NOT plastic entertainment!
I think of Stuart McLean as the Canadian Garrison Keillor, and his show "The Vinyl Cafe," as their answer to "A Prairie Home Companion." This series is excellent for anyone with a mental age over six years.

laughed 'til I cried
The stories unfold so subtily that the reader accepts the absurd situations as the normal outcome. This Canadian author is a real find. May not be funny to everyone. Know you own sense of humor!

Ordinary people acting in ordinary ways, but the stories ...
Ordinary people acting in ordinary ways, but the stories reflect that there is no such thing as 'normal' This is the kind of book you don't read on the bus because everyone will keep looking at you when you laugh out loud. From the cat that learned to flush the loo to the kitchen refurbishment failure you will be reminded of people you know and stuff that has happened to you.

don't read this on the tube!
Anaother cracker from the Cafe. Dave at his very nuerotic best. I made the mistake of reading it on the tube and got some odd looks as I couldn't stop myself from laughing out loud.

A must have!
I just love Dave and his family. He's equally clumsy like me and some of the things happening to him could happen to me as well. He's my best imaginary friend from Canada.Unfortunately this edition is not available for Kindle yet so I've had it shipped to friend's house in Montreal to bring it back to Europe. Writing this , I still have tears in my eyes after reding the duck story.Sebastian from Belgium
