“Buy a shovel”
CHEAP... CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP! As I was using it any small rock embedded in the dirt would bend it out of shape and start to wobble when in use. I got to about 8 holes at the most and just sheared right off.. pisses me off “Best value” of whatever the heck Amazon advertised this product as.

Great Auger, but needs teeth.
So this is a great little auger if you have completely soft ground with no issues. However, if you have even the slightest of small rocks, clay or debris in the path, it does not like to get through them... Tip of mine just kept getting stopped by clay and the blade couldn't get down into it because of the 1.5in gap between the tip and blade. Just needs teeth on the tip! Overall great quality, width is great, and great for most drills.Tip for improvement: Needs teeth to be able to rip through obstacles to the depth you're wanting.

4" garden auger
I was skeptical, but this thing really works! I have hard red clay (a nightmare to dig in). Take your time. I dug down about 3" at first, then soaked the ground with water. Next morning, I made several 6" deep holes in mere minutes! What a time saver! Would recommend a hammer drill.

Good garden tool
Bought for my son to help him plant his gardens. Works really well. Takes a little practice. Goes into the ground with ease. We have fairly good soils where I live. No hard pack or clay. Found it is just like drilling a hole in wood. Drill a little and pull it out to clean the hole. Then drill a little more, so on and so on. Seems well made not cheaply made at all.

Awesome
This product is awesome. I do not necessarily use this for planting, but it is an awesome tool for mixing organic material into existing soil. I use grow bags, instead of a garden. I used to till organic matter into the soil with a tiller which worked very well. However, I'm older and unable to do certain things. This tool helps me make my own "potting" soil. I mix leaves, grass clippings, and household organic matter into my soil in the fall, for use in the spring. The only negative is the lower edge of the auger it too pointed/sharp and destroyed a couple of bins I was using for mixing purposes. So, FYI, I found a recycled bin similar to rubber and it works phenomenally well. This fall, so far, I have made 16-15gallon grow bags for my thorn less blackberries and awesome asparagus. Just enjoy what you can do and enjoy the fruits of your labors.

Game changer.
This thing is a GAME CHANGER! My son and I planted 110 liriope plants in less than an hour. 4” is perfect for plants. It kicks out rocks. Powers through most roots less than 1/2 in in diameter. Will get a smaller size for bulbs.

Step aside shovel
Quickly dug a hole for a new plant. Solid auger but that fit in my standard drill. It was delivered in one day for cheap.

Great bit! Highly recommend.
After reading the mixed reviews on here, I decided to buy and test this bit out myself. I live in South Texas, where the soil tends to be closer to clay, so it can be tough digging down because of the dryness. I attached the bit to my Dewalt hand drill and used it to drill holes for some raised beds we made out of recycled wood. Bear in mind that I did this a few days after we had a week of heavy rain, so this made the task much easier. Some users posted some comments suggesting that the bit is not sturdy but I did not experience any issues using the bit. After a quick trial (after hitting a few rocks) I realized that this tool scrapes the dirt upwards, so it needs to be used to drill down a bit and then pull out the loose soil before continuing and drilling deeper. I did install an additional bed on very dry soil and had no issues either. Keep your hand sturdy when using this though as the drill might twist on you when it starts picking up the soil; if you’re not careful, you may injure your wrist.I really enjoyed the ease of use of this product - I’d venture to say it’s ideal for installing fence posts as the hole this makes is clean and deep enough to cover at least a 10” depth. You can extend the width by using a post-hole digger. If you’re installing 4x4 posts (like I did), you may need to adjust the hole for the corners of the 4x4. I used a sledge to push the supports for the boxes into the holes and it worked out really well.I also used this to dig holes for transplanting plants into soil. This tool does a great job of loosening soil. The clean up is also a breeze. I highly recommend this tool.

didnt work for our soil which is not soft.
Our garden soil is not soft, if it was soft I wouldn't need to buy any device to dig a hole for the plants. My husband attached it to a 12-volt drill. The drill/device was not strong to dig a hole. I bought a strong Milwaukee drill which powered with electricity. , the top part of the device which connects to the drill is hallow and this part bent over, unfortunately. it could not dig a single hole for us. the metal part of the device was not strong enough for our soil. I returned the device. If your soil is not soft, it doesn't work for your garden. the device works with soft soils only. I wish i got a picture from the bent device before the return.

What a great little tool
My wife(the gardener) always complained about the soil around our property. It was difficult to get a shovel into the ground because of the clay and rock mixture. It was also hard on her feet, shoulders and legs. She saw an ad for this tool on the internet and thought it would be great to give it a try. It worked as advertised and she was thrilled. We used a battery powered drill when testing it. As I said before our soil was not great and it did the job, but if your soil is worse than ours, a hammer drill might be required.

Excellent product, choose your driver carefully
Sturdy product with good finish. Perfect for planting small sapling trees, making holes for tomato and pepper transplant, etc. That said I would not recommend using it with a cordless drill unless you have very light soil. A proper auger can handle the torque but a cordless drill could easily be destroyed

Actually works!
Bought it to help dig holes for tree planting, I was skeptical about it working, but it actually works! Also useful for breaking up bagged and compacted soil. We've used it to till the ground as well.
