Effective, affordable and easy to use!
I had only used activated charcoal in capsules to counter ingested toxins before I discovered this product. Recently, my dwelling was overwhelmed by toxic fumes of napthalene (the chemical in mothballs ) from nearby construction and some actual mothballs (that thoroughly failed to deter the rat:-( Desperate for the return of clean air I found many activated charcoal products on Amazon. Most seemed geared for shoes or to be decorative -which translates to tiny and expensive. This listing was the only one that appeared to have enough charcoal to counteract an actual poisonous gas rather than just cat poo and stinky feet.I'm extremely grateful to report that within a few hours of deploying these , the toxic smell was greatly reduced. After several days I cannot detect it-and I have a nose like a wolf.Luckily whatever was being used in the building construction stopped during this time, but the mothballs are still there. Their scent is detectable near their location but not inside the room with these little bags of charcoal. These are not the decorative hanging bags with cute pictures or symbols, just very simple bags made of what appears to be the same material used for disposable hospital gowns. This is good because they are more reasonable in cost and because you can make your own decorative bags if you want to hang them where they are visible. That way they will definitely fit the color scheme of your room.I believe these are technically refills for a diaper pail system but they are perfect for any use the more decorative bags are used for because the function is exactly the same. (Just be sure you use an open weave fabric for bags or covers so it doesn't impede the airflow through the charcoal. )I've already planned multiple uses for these once the mothball threat is ended. Car deoderizer, refrigerator, kitty litter , stored clothing (Florida is so humid that no matter how carefully you store it, it's likely to smell at least slightly moldy by the time you retrieve it).I will definitely order these again.

Zero effect. Been using it for diaper pail. The grains of coal are too dry, that's why I think they don't absorb any smells

Unmet expectations
This did not eliminate any odor whatsoever. I am sad, as I was so excited for this product.

Saved Our Refrigerator!!
I used this on our camper after we left two packs of frozen chicken in the freezer in June.....and removed them at the end of August. When we came back to that camper we were stunned by the level of smell that was everywhere. We thought something had died inside. We tried everything including slathering the entire inside of the refrigerator and freezer with Soft Scrub with Bleach and leaving it over night. I honestly thought we were going to have to replace the refrigerator. Turns out no matter what we did to the plastic the real problem was that the smell was in the motor. So I ordered these after finding the reviews and it cut the smell in half the first night. Then it continued to do its job over the next few months. After that first night and for the first few days I used one full pack in the fridge / freezer every day and refreshed them in the afternoon in the sun. After 4-5 days the smell was only faint and over the next few weeks it began to disappear completely. These are still in the camper and the fridge but in a much lesser amount and I have used them for other smells over and over. Just buy them. They are worth it.
