Great Product - USE PET FRIENDLY DIATOMACEOUS EARTH IN MOAT TO KEEP ANTS/BUGS OUT
THIS BOWL IS GREAT. JUST THE RIGHT SIZE FOR SMALL DOGS AND CATS. I also just wanted to take this time to comment on the problems with ants getting into the pet food by letting buyers know of a perfect way to keep ants, roaches, spiders out of pet food using diatomaceous earth. Diatomaceous earth is pet friendly....will not harm your pet if they eat it. It is basically "dirt"...that is a powder like substance used in homeopathic like pest extermination. The exoskeletons of ants, roaches, spiders are very thin...diatomaceous earth is basically powdered glass that kills these pests when they walk across it. Yea...I know...not something you want to think about. But since water evaporates quickly...or your pet wants to drink the water up as soon as you fill the moat.......and using oil just makes a mess...DE really is a great option.I first tried DE when I found a trail of ants leading into the pet food. After putting the DE in the moat the ants stopped coming. Have not seen them return and its after months of using it. You can buy DE here online on Amazon...or even at your local home improvement stores. The bag I purchased specifically shows it to be a pest control measure......TRY IT...you'll be happy you did.

Worked for a month, but Ant's got smart!!
Ants got smart! For a month this food dish with a moat served me well. But now the ant commanders ordered their low tier soldiers do die in the water and use their corpses as a BRIDGE to get to the cat food! Amazing right? So now I put dish soap in the moat, but there is drawbacks to that. If there's any kittens, they might drink that as I've witnessed kittens drinking it because its nice and low (before i had any soap in there). Also the other drawback is that the scent of soap makes the cats not want to drink water in main water dish so now you need another water dish. This dish is pretty sturdy, doesn't flex and doesn't become brittle in the sun or change color. If this dish is indoors and your house has only a mild ant problem then probably this is a good solution. For feral cats where this is outside you will need that dish soap, but once again if there's no kittens. Because feral kittens show up randomly sometimes you can't always be so sure of this!So I think 3 stars is too low but 4 Maybe a bit too high.Update April 2022Still using this moat. FYI, not all not all breeds are so smart. So using it with raid gel around the border has been a great solution. I would still recommend buying it, especially for indoor where ant breeds are more limited.

Works really well for intended purpose
I feed 2 feral cats and when I put out regular dishes in the brush, they fill with ants and other bugs within 30 minutes. This dish works well and only occasionally do I find some ants that can swim. It even keeps out the big black carpenter ants. Doesn't stop the flying bugs or the tiny snails but they are no bother. Its sturdy and easy to clean and with 2 ferals they can both eat at once. Thumbs up from me!

No More Ants !
This worked out GREAT to keep the ants out of our cat food. Instead of water, we filled the channel with just enough diatomaceous earth to cover the bottom. Ants won’t cross it and it’s less likely to spill & won’t evaporate. Occasionally a piece of food falls into the channel but it’s easy to pick it out of the d. earth (unlike water.) Ant problem SOLVED!

Bowl works great!! I was trying to outsmart a raccoon ...
Bowl works great!! I was trying to outsmart a raccoon that has stolen multiple cat bowls at our barn, so I bungee corded this bowl to a cement block. It worked! Now it is ant AND raccoon proof. Our barn kitty, Fiona, says thank you!
