I didn't realize how much would come in this container (which is great)! It's going to last a loong time. Hopefully it'll retain it's flavor. I gave my rating only on what I've observed so far, as I haven't used it in any recipes yet. But it has a wonderful, bright, fresh anise flavor and scent, and I'm sure I'm going to be using it in many recipes.

Smells like licorice but it has a sweet taste when added to vegetable soup.

Star Anise powder is especially useful when creating your own Chinese five spice blend, or just need to add some to an existing blend you have that might not include star anise. For me it's an essential spice of the Chinese five spice blend, but some pre-mixed blends don't include it. Very helpful to have on it's own, it will add a hint of flavor to add authenticity to Chinese dishes.

This spice has an amazing flavor and aroma. I love the taste and smell of black licorice. Until i was an adult i did not know how many different options there were for that type of flavor in everyday cooking. I am going to be honest and admit that I have not purchased a lot of anise spice in my lifetime. A little goes along way. I tossed out my old bottle because it had been around for several years and was losing it's smell. so i was pretty sure the flavor would be weaker as well.I got this bottle of Soeos Organic Chinese Star Anise Powder for several reasons. First it comes in a 1.3 oz size which is half of what my old bottle was so I am more likely to use it all while it is still fresh. the second reason is that it only has one ingredient: Star Anise Powder. Nothing else. Several years ago I had a medical issue that limited my diet considerably and I was forced to start reading labels. I was and am still shocked by the unnecessary junk companies add to spices and foods. This brand is non GMO certified, has no additives or preservatives, and is organic. Sometimes what is not in a product matters just as much as what is in it.I have used this very high quality anise powder in cookies, homemade pear butter, Italian Easter Bread, spiced lattes, Caprese Salad, and homemade Chinese 5 Spice powder. It has a very distinct taste without being over powering and goes very well with some seafood like several scallop & shrimp recipes.My overall opinion of Soeos Organic Chinese Star Anise Powder is positive and I will definitely come back to this brand in the future.
