blast from the past
Great book. First read the series in high school it’s really nostalgic to go back and read them now as an adult.

Excellent continuation of the story
The author continues to bring to life the horrors of an American civil war as experienced by a small group of teenagers in northern Idaho. I found the second book of the series to be increasingly realistic, and was pleasantly surprised how skillfully the author wove the dual themes of good and evil that is "war" into the increasingly battle-scared mind of a seventeen year old man. An interesting side note is his use of social media vignettes throughout each book, I found this increased the believability of the story rather than detracting from it.I immediately pre-ordered the third book in this series and eagerly await its release. (I am a 66 yo retired military officer.)

Best series around
I love all of these books! If you are a fan of the dystopian novels that have become so popular the last few years, you should read these! This series was probably one of my favorites because with all of the crap going on in our country right now, it wasn't so hard to picture something like this actually happening. The books felt very authentic and really made me think about how soldiers must feel in combat.

I loved on how the book is a mix of some romance and constant action. I really enjoyed reading this book because I didn't really ever want to put it down! It made me think about how others view me and how I live my life. I 100% recommend this book.

Great series for high level preteen/young teen boys.
My son LOVES this series! He wishes there were more. I'm happy that there are these military stories for my 12 year old son who reads on a college level but is too young for the 'maturity' level that are present in Clancy and such books. Trent Reedy and James Patterson are all he has right now.

Teenager approved. Action packed.
Bought this for my classroom library. There aren't many fictional book that appeal to my male students, so I was hoping this would appeal to them. The first student read it, and I soon had a waiting list for the book. They all enjoyed it and want the next book in the series.

An Exciting and Terrifying Civil War Story
In "Burning Nation" the gripping and emotionally-charged sequel to "Divided We Fall" Danny Wright and his friends are swept up in the military occupation of Freedom Lake. With their wounded Danny and his squad hide in the well-provisioned bunker under his repair shop but are soon hunted by Federal troops under Major Alsovar. When they begin running guerilla missions, the danger of capture quickly escalates as death draws ever closer.Under the enhanced measures of the Unity Act President Laura Griffith has expanded her power and ordered a military strike on Idaho. But President James Montaine is one step ahead after Idaho secedes from the union. Setting up the state capital in the well-guarded north he knows that southern Idaho is vulnerable, will be overrun and will have to deal with governmental repression. As food and other resources dwindle President Montaine urges rebellion in southern Idaho and does what he can to assist the resistance of the " Brotherhood". In this dark and foreboding landscape Danny, his militia unit and friends begin terrorist strikes against Federals in his community, but quickly learns that the heart of many of his enemies may not be in this second civil war.Action-packed and fast-paced as events unfold, the plot constantly raises questions about the implications and collateral damage of war and misuse of power. The intensity of the story builds slowly not only with the violence that whirls around Danny Wright and his friends, but through the media's coverage as the war escalates and the death count grows. Even the ending's explosive climax leaves a door open for a third book in this chillingly realistic narrative. The characters in the story are complex, their personalities evolving as the war progresses. Haunted by nightmares and guilt Danny Wright continues to be a symbol of the second civil war. He's serious, intense and a leader that his friends listen to. Although he says he's in love with the stubborn and passionately opinionated Jobelle, Danny gravitates to the warmth, kindness and peacemaking skill of Becca who supports him by joining the rebellion. Of his friends Eric Sweeney has a conscience about all the killing while Carl Riccon gets caught up in all the violence and hatred; lusting to kill Federals. Major Frederico Alsovar the cruel and sadistic military officer is determined to break Danny and bring the Idaho rebels to justice. All these personalities and many others add depth and dimension to this exciting and riveting drama."Burning Nation" is a terrifying story, a realistic possibility in this modern age. Yet in all the violence there is the promise of hope and peace. I look forward to reading the last chapter.
