This one is a keeper
My experience has been that many of these large-format how-to auto books are not very well produced. They often are light on text and heavy on photos of other people's cars, and often times the technical info runs along the lines of- "so, just give Big Jim a ring, he's over in <some town 2500 miles from where you live>, and he will be glad to fix you up with the latest and greatest gizinta's to make your <rusty thing sitting out in the driveway dripping oil> run with the big guys. (PS, bring cash. Lots of cash.)"So while those books may be fun to peruse, and teach you just enough to allow you to pretend you know what you are talking about, they aren't really very practical, not all that useful for actually getting work done.I am happy to say that this book is different. Jeff Harrtman clearly knows his s**t, he is a very good writer, and has produced an impressive book.Confession: I actually have the 2003 edition on hand, and just ordered this, the 2013 edition, which should arrive in a couple days, so I have not actually seen it yet, but I am confident it will impress. I am going through the 2003 edition slowly, highlighting text, taking notes, looking up things, making a list of acronyms (there are a lot of acronyms in this field). This is a text book, I am guessing it gets used in tech schools quite a bit.

Good overview
Half of the book is devoted to explaining how modern vehicles use computers to control different engine functions. The second half is specific for various (expensive) cars.
