Illustration School: Let's Draw Happy People

Sachiko Umoto's drawing style is simple and easy to follow. This book features many short step-by-step animal drawing demonstrations that will allow artists of all skills levels to create their own recognizable animals from their first try with economy of lines and a distinct Japanese feel to them. Very useful and fun drawing book that belongs in the reference library of any budding artist. This is the second time I purchase this book for my own library, for my first copy "mysteriously" disappeared this past summer during one of my drawing art camps. Even medium and advance level artists might benefit from trying out Umoto's abstraction process that so effectively reduces complex subjects to attractive and easy-to-recognize symbols with the fewest lines possible.

I have all the books, and my eight-year-old twins and I LOVE these books! So much so that all our dear friends' children received one for Christmas. The style and steps are clear, beautiful, easy and endearing. The themes in these books are thoughtful and cover a wide and global range of interests that are very creative. These books provide many hours of focused and meaningful learning and creating for my children and friends. I highly recommend these books.

I have little kids and they often want me to draw for them. I wouldn't say I'm terrible at drawing but I am definitely no artist. This book quickly shows you how to draw a person and they turn out adorable. The approach is very casual and not overly involved. The book isn't trying to teach you the correct way to do anything, but the way it shows you is easy and fuss-free. I also love the paper used for the cover. It feels like a watercolor paper and the book is small (but not too small) and is easy to put on the bookshelf. I've also purchased the "Let's Draw Cute Animals" book and I highly recommend that as well!!

I could look at Sachiko Umoto's illustrations forever! So clever and amusing. I bought this as a gift for a young girl who is a gifted artist and she adores it! I'd actually like to own a copy myself! The illustrations are extremely inspiring to the artist in all of us...simple, yet evoking so much feeling! Highly recommended for the artist of any age!

These books are beautiful works of art in themselves and you won't regret buying them :) I have recently acquired the whim to learn to doodle and hence bought three of Sachiko's books to help me learn doodling. Of all the drawing books I have bought, these are by far the cutest, the most informative & the most helpful. Sachiko's style is easy to follow and learn, and I keep referring to her books when I'm stuck or in need of ideas. Really helpful if you want to make your own whimsical cards or illustrations. This book covers the topic of illustrating people & movement, also how personalities can be affected by posture, clothes, hair type etc.

Love this fun doodly book. It is geared more toward kiddos than I realized but I can still have fun with it, too. Plus, my kiddos get to love it, too! The book is somewhat small but it is full of fantastic content and by no means is it tiny. In fact, after measuring it is roughly 6 x 8 inches. Great for kids and just fine for adults, too.

I bought this book for my 10 year old daughter who loves to draw. She is still a learning and is working on her control, but this book is perfect for that. All the little characters are really simple, yet adorable. I think that the simplicity of the drawings adds to it's charm. There are many unique woodsy creatures and a few different types of fruit and veggies. The book itself is quite beautiful and well made. We are really happy with these books and will be collecting all of them.

I started off developing my drawing skills with a couple of Chris Hart books, which I found to be challenging as a beginning artist. This book was much more useful in a number of ways: as a teacher, I need to draw people quite regularly on my white board, but I don't have the time to develop a full figure study before I draw them. Sachiko Umoto helped me develop a good repertoire of figures I could draw immediately; and now I find that my creative skills grow rapidly because I have that range of figures available and ready to draw. I'm able to invent new figures on my own thanks to her.

Das Buch verdient inhaltlich 5 Sterne, die Zeichnungen sind wirklich toll anzusehen und gelingen dank Schritt-für-Schritt Anleitungen auch ganz gut.Sehr traurig bin ich allerdings über den Zustand des Buches. Es kam verschmutzt und stark eingerissen bei mir an, die ersten 20-30 Seiten sind in einem besonders traurigen Zustand (auf den Bildern einsehbar), fallen wohl bald aus dem Buch heraus und über das Deckblatt hat sich schon eine Tasse Tee ergossen, dem großflächigen Fleck nach zu urteilen. :( Bei dem Shop bestelle ich nicht noch mal.

A mi hija de 11 años le encanta. El papel es de muy buena calidad, las ilustraciones son preciosas y es muy original. Para mayores y los más pequeños. Lo recomiendo totalmente

The book is good having instruction on how to draw simple faces and human body. But the book is small. I expected it to be a hard bound book with gloss papers and extremely good print experience as the cost of the book is very high. But still the content is fun and good.

Un très bel objet en soit : simple, absolument charmant. Le ton enfantin du livre est tout à fait approprié. Idéal pour apprendre à dessiner rapidement pour un travail où notre "personnalité" n'est pas importante, mais aussi idéal pour inspirer les enfants. C'est assurément un excellent cadeau.
