WOW Performance Pop for Stockish SBFs
These heads out of the box were fine, but I had my shop mill them for higher compression on an already built 289 with Comp's N271H cam. He also smoothed the intakes going into the chamber just above the valve seats maybe an 1" or 1.5" up the intake runners. He said the Edelbrock parts were quality pieces and req'd nothing further, and should last like OEMs or better. As for street performance, I can't be more satisfied for the price, quality, and WOW the seat of the pants performance improvement over the steel OEMs. Flow out of the box beats the fully ported '65 OEMs ~240cfm to ~220cfm @ .500". With the massaging, probably closer to 250+cfm @.500 lift. I was warned not to use the 2.02 version on my stock 289 application to keep up the torque and clearance issues...EDL Performer 289, Comp Die Cast roller rockers, Dynamax X-pipe, turbo muffs, and 1 5/8" Doug's long tubes have surprised all who have ridden in it - it all seems to work together nicely. No timeslipls to compare, though. 2.02" versions are available from Fox Lake flowing 300+cfm @.600".
