Short Pro vs Short Finder
Received the non-Mars Short Pro and so far it works essentially the same. The original Mars/Zebra version (now called Short Finder and not available on Amazon) has a red led while the Global Amazon version has a blue led. The Mars version comes with alligator clips and quick connect terminals while the Global version has alligator clips only. The packaging is different as well. Both employ solid state current limiting for 24 vac short protection and both reset when the circuit is opened. The Global unit states it will allow 2.2 amps before current limiting. So a system transformer greater than ~50 va may not work with this troubleshooting tool connected in series.

Hvac uses
I haven't found a short with them but they make great jumpers at a control board.
