S. L. Ager has done it again!
After the runaway success of The Cadwaladr Quests trilogy (targeted at year 5s and 6s), Ager has transported her readers back in time with the first of four prequels - The Cadwaladr Chronicles: Trap. What I love about Trap is that though it is aimed at younger children (year 2 - 4), it doesn't compromise on the quality of plot or vocabulary. Set in the 12th century, it not only provides a backstory to the Cadwaladr Quests, but also tells an engaging tale of intrigue, mystery and magic whilst also using a range of ambitious vocabulary. If you want to help expand your children's vocabulary, you must buy them this riveting book.

An Enthralling Prequel to the Cadwaladr Series!
The Cadwaladr Chronicles: Trap was specifically written to help young readers improve their vocabulary in a fun and engaging way. SL Ager has done a tremendous job in creating a fantastical world of action and adventure. Aficionados of fantasy and historic fiction will absolutely adore this original novel set in the twelfth century. What I like most is the fact that readers can absorb new vocabulary on the go. This is particularly useful for students who are looking to learn new words for the 11+ entrance exams. Many thanks to the author for giving me access to an advanced reader copy. This brilliant book gets a 10/10 from me!

Great book for young readers- strong storyline and immersive vocabulary
The continued success of The Cadwaladr Quests series suitable for children in Year 5 and above meant that I was waiting to see how the prequels would read in terms of the story going back in time. What a delight it turned out to be! The Cadwaladr Chronicles: Trap meant for younger kids delights and will enthral them. Those interested in fantasy and historical fiction particularly will like it. The highlight, besides the interesting story, is the range of vocabulary that children can pick up as they enjoy this book. It is a great foundation for learning new words at a young age. Great for the 11 plus tests too which require good knowledge of words and their application but not limited to the tests only. This book and the other prequels to come are a fabulous way of getting children interested and hooked to good writing and stories.I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy. Would highly recommend getting yours.

A MUST BUY for parents preparing their child for 11+ exams
I am fortunate enough to have had an advanced reader copy of this book- it is an incredible resource for students to use independently, or with their parents. As an English teacher and examiner, I frequently witness students struggling with inference skills and creative writing due to not having a wide enough vocabulary- this books assists children with both: reading and writing skills. It's almost a novel and dictionary in one. I truly wish there were more books out there like this, so my students could learn vocabulary in an organic manner, whilst enjoying a great story.I will be using this book with my 11+ students, and my Year 7s.

A brilliant action-packed prequel to the bestselling Cadwaladr Quest series!
This is the review from my Y4 kid.I rather enjoyed reading The Cadwaladr Quests series, and now Ager has enhanced it by adding an excellent new prequel - Trap.I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of Trap. The plot is fast-flowing and engaging while introducing a wide range of fabulous 11+ vocab in a fun way. The author uses very polite language e.g. instead of “bum” or “butt”, she uses “rear”. Another example is, instead of “toilet”, she uses “garderobes”. This introduces children to better language, unlike David Walliams.I would highly recommend buying this book.

11+ Vocabulary at its best! Great for 7-12 years old.
S.L. Ager does it again!Following on from her excellent 'Cadwaladr Quests' series, ‘Trap’ is the first book in a new prequel series called the ‘Cadwaladr Chronicles’.This time out, the story is set in medieval Wales, and features all-new characters and situations.Importantly, the strength of the storytelling helps make the inclusion of 11+ vocabulary seamless and easy for the reader to engage with.As with previous vocal novels, the Kindle book version contains interactive footnotes, defining that vocabulary. It’s important to note that these notes will not work in the pre-buy 'download a sample' option. This is because the Kindle sample version only downloads a small number of pages from the front portion of the book…and all the footnotes are stored at the back!BUT, the full Kindle version has the pop-up footnote functionality intact (ie: tap a featured word in the story and its definition appears on-screen). So just buy the full book!A great, entertaining educational read.Very highly recommended!

Brilliant prequel to the trilogy: the Cadwaladr Quests series
Following Sheena Ager's best-selling trilogy - Cadwaladr Quest series - this is the first of a new series aimed at developing the vocabulary of Year 3 and 4 students. The idea of students learning vocabulary while enjoying a novel has revolutionized the tedious process of learning words via flashcards. All the students who have used Sheena's Cadwaladr Quest series as part of their exam preparation has testified to the right level of words that had appeared in their exams.I would highly recommend this book and look forward to the next.

Another superb book by S.L. Ager
I enjoyed reading this book as it is suspenseful and tense, and made me sit on the edge of my seat. The descriptive language can help build your vocabulary and the built-in dictionary on every page is very effective. I highly recommend this book to children over the age of eight. With a mix of betrayal, mystery and adventure, Cad’s journey is an intriguing story. Another great book for a child's 11+ journey.
