A steaming pile
The only redeeming quality of this movie is that Michelle Rodriguez looks good in a bikini. The movie itself is garbage. The plot in itself isn't bad, but wow did the writing completely ruin the concept. The "actors", and I use that term loosely, are pretty awful as well. In the end, if you would like to see a few german shepherds steal a plane, attack people in the water and do other stupid nonsensical things, this is the movie for you. Or you could just put some salt in your eyes.... that would probably be a more pleasurable experience.

Implausible plot holes ruined a great premise.
There was little emotion evoked in this pedestrian "horror" movie. I think we've been spoiled with the rabid animal classics like Cujo for this one to make any impact. So when the movie really doesn't interest the viewers, the gaping plot holes become apparent. Like the 10 year old lodge style house that has been abandoned for 10 years; yet there are living plants inside that somehow survived with no water? Food in the refrigerator and in the cabinets that these idiots partake in? A car in the garage that starts the first time? With a good battery? Inflated tires, etc? So overlook all the plot mismanagement, you're still stuck with a boring story with characters you could not care less about. And worse? Not a single scene with any nudity. And this script was begging for some.

Nothing original
When I saw this was a Wes Craven Production, I had hopes. The movies starts with two sailing to an island, after apparently being lost. It doesn’t end good for the woman. At least it was not obvious what attacked her. But for an ‘island’, it sure looked more like a northern latitude forest, and more extensive than an island. And the movie was shot around Cape Town, South Africa. Later, the main group of characters come in on a sea plane. Some of the roles were supposedly of smart people, and they recognized a fine wine, a Medoc. So why did they keep pronouncing it wrong? Luke stumbles upon them (he was on the opening scene boat) and tells them the dogs don’t want them on the island. And despite one of the characters showing he is a good shot with the bow and arrow, he does nothing when Luke is attacked. And later when he shoots at one of the dogs, he hits Nikki instead. They find a car in the barn covered with dust, and when the key is turned, it immediately starts. But later, when they need the car to start, it naturally won’t. And naturally, later one tries to get a cell phone signal. This try seems to now be a staple of horror movies set in far away locations. And of course the reason for the dogs behavior is standard horror movie reasons. This movie is so full of cliches. I became nostalgic for the 1959 movie Attack of the Killer Shrews while watching this. At least that movie made no pretenses. Two stars is, in my opinion, generous.

The dogs were cool9ish0.
This film came out almost immediately with an intense set-up but then it switches over to a slow-building story. The characters were never really engaging though a couple spots showed potential with some witty dialogue ... but that was short-lived. In the face of savage beasts and no escape, the young group does what you would expect ... actually, no they don't. They go to partying. Also, suddenly there's a dramatic story line about one brother never amounting to what the other brother could, and this is justified as the reasoning to why the latter brother blames the former for their situation. There was no build-up to the one brother forcing anyone to this island. Everybody was in party mode and excited so this story line became a vehicle of emotion that didn't add up. Also, it is hard to empathize with the emotional turmoil of two brothers and the girlfriend who jumps from one to the next. She is presented as simply dumping the one but a later scene (as a vehicle to explain away tension) has one brother accusing him of being a POS womanizer. No build up to it. Good luck to this film, its creators and the actors because cancel culture is coming for actors who play parts in the film that they are not in real life: good luck Rodriguez and Manning.

Really good movie. Just try it. You've seen worse.
I know alot of people would say this is "cheesy, dumb, poor, horrible, nonsense" etc. film. But my honest opinion, I'd give this full 5 stars. Its unique, its different than your common paranormal, exorcism, now days horror/thriller/suspense (don't get me wrong love those films, especially by James Wann). Yeah okay your like that's impossible for a dog to do....well guess what, its a movie. If movies were constantly like real life situations than I think movies would've ended a long time ago after, "Cujo" and be boring forever because who wants to always watch real life stuff all the time? Spice it up give it a twist, give it a holy sh**, or you gotta be kidding me reactions. This movie did all those to me. And if you like a different movie with a im glad these dogs don't exist near me, this is it. I've watched a lot of movies from 1920's to 2020, and trust me there's a heck of a lot worse movies out there that can make this look like a academy award winner. This is suspenseful, unexpected moments, and characters that actually do try to survive through this. But don't take my word for it. If you don't like it great if you don't thats great too. Just know, this is on Prime Video and its free to watch. So its not like you spent 20.00 on a movie that you might or might not like. One more thing, I love about this movie is they actually use real dogs like Cujo status. No computer graphic fake dogs. I mean yeah there's going to be a couple of those, but this is 95% real dog film.

Neither Craven nor Rodriguez could save it
Boring, mindless, stupid garbage. The relentless stupidity of this "film" can be summed up with just this one (of countless) inconsistency. Early on, TWICE the group is told, "They [the dogs] don't want you here." But then the entire "film" consists of the dogs performing superhuman feats of intellect to KEEP the group on the island. Endlessly stoooopid and with mind-numbing "dialog." If you have functioning neurons, you'll feel them exploding (never to return to you). Save yourself, and don't bother with this mess.

"..SAVAGE ENTERTAINMENT.."
I for one loved this movie, despite the low opinion of it by others! I'm all for good cheesy horrors and I found this to very entertaining, the story is quite different and a bit more original than usual horrors, there has been a few dog horrors in the past but I think this one is pulled off with good style and effect, basically the plot is a group of college kids fly to a remote island for a party, only to find its been taken over by a new breed of savage killer dogs, as the story progresses we discover these are no ordinary animals, its a great set up for some painful savage bloody kills and gore, the dogs all look really scary especially if your not a big dog lover, I think as dogs being a common fear for some people it makes them a more grounded villain for a horror, the cast is all ok, Michelle Rodriguez of course being probably the most famous face in the movie, personally I would say see it if you haven't already, its not the best horror ever but its highly enjoyable and genuinely creepy and worth going back too, im shocked that somebody hasn't tried to make a sequel already. The picture of the Blu-ray (German import) is not too bad, slight white bitty-ness in the blacks some places but don't spoil the film.Special features include behind the scenes making of (English language)Region B. English Language. Reversible sleeve.

Animals wanting to be feed
So girls beware as this show is about two men taking their girlfriends to an exotic island for the usual romp around thinking this is going to be a great time with no worries. Hate to disappoint you as there is a word called BUT, so I told you didn't I !. Things start going out of control the first night when things go wrong, I'm not going to tell you as you'll have to find out the same way I did and that is to watch, spoil sport I am as I wont tell you everything because that will spoil it for you. I rated this an A grade plus as the story is great acting terrific and the canines played there parts good as well, oh did I forget to mention the dogs well they add something to the show as well. Relax to a night in with fabulous entertainment with feet up and a blanket. Enjoy!

Good plot, excellent cast - 'edge of the seat' film!
I really enjoyed this film. Keeps you on the edge of your seat because there is no way of knowing how it will end - and what an end! I really enjoyed the 'Bonus Features' showing the making of the film - and the bravery of the actors in the process. Highly recommended for those who enjoy a good believable thriller/horror movie.
