Great alternative to a bbq
It was a while back when on holiday in France that I was introduced to the delights of cooking upon a Plancha !! Before the bbq was religiously wheeled out every year to serve up the usual fare of chicken steak sausages and burgers!!With a little mastering I became relatively proficient at singing steaks and carbonising sausages!!! However, my brother in law then introduced me to the plancha! In essence the plancha is just a gas heated flat plateā¦. However, it does allow you to add a little more refinement to the out door dining experience. We now cook a multitude of different dishes from mussels and fish to fresh vegetables⦠even the occasional early morning summer cooked breakfast.Using your new plancha adds an extra dimension to your out door cooking experience. The bbq is still a family favourite however, the plancha now runs a very close second!!To conclude this particular Plancha is robustly build and exudes an air of quality. The gas controls are ergonomically placed and easy to read, whilst the plate its self transfers heat evenly . It is also a breeze to clean !! Overall money very well spent . I hope you enjoy using one as much as we do!!!

A brilliant way to cook outdoors!
We have been using a gas burner grill type BBQ for many years and were looking for a replacement. We hadn't considered a griddle gas type BBQ like this and took a while to decide whether or not to buy it.As we were a bit fed up with the flame ups we have experienced with the gas burner grill type BBQ and also didn't want a BBQ with a stand as it is so awkward to move, we thought we would try this model. We are so glad we did as it is a much better way of cooking and is much more enjoyable to use.It heated up fairly quickly. I only used the first 3 burners and left the 4th one off as I wanted an area to put the cooked food to keep it warm.We cooked sausages, burgers and onions as well as lightly toasting the burger buns. The smells generated while cooking were delightful and as good as when cooking on the grill type BBQ we had used in the past. The food was cooked to perfection and everyone said it was the best BBQ they had ever eaten! No burnt sausages or rock hard burgers! You can cook almost anything on this griddle and of course as there is no grill no food is lost down the slots and there is no smoke to get in your eyes from burning fat!The unit is quit heavy but the top plate lifts off so it is easier to move and clean. (It would be too heavy for an old or disabled person to lift off on their own). Before we used the BBQ we bought some BBQ grill mats which were brilliant and ensured the food didn't stick AT ALL to the hot plate. (Search for "EXTSUD BBQ Grill Mat, 5 Pcs bbq Grill Mats Non Stick Reusable and Baking Mesh for Indoor Outdoor BBQ Works on Gas Charcoal Electric Grill Sheets 40x33CM (Black)" on Amazon for £7.25). We didn't use any cooking oil as the food cooked in its own juices.I can't find anything bad so say about it. It is a big model so make sure you happy with that. I did have to email Dellonda with a small problem and they were quick to respond and we got the issue sorted out very quickly. If you like smoke in your eyes and burnt food then you may be better off with a gas grill type BBQ!

Great product, but not quite as ready-for-use as it looks.
On balance, this is a great product. The cooking surface is huge, and the controls are simple and effective. In initial tests, it was really easy to cook on. The cooking surface is enamel, which means 7/10 for non-stick, but 11/10 for durability. The drip tray works really well. I'd be happy with this in my kitchen. So why only four stars? Several reasons:First, when I set it up in the kitchen, it was really easy to cook on. The plate came up to temperature (180 degrees) in just a few minutes, and the food cooked really well. But outdoors, with only a little wind, the burners didn't burn properly and the temperature didn't rise much above about 90. In order to cook effectively, I bought some windshields and set them up around the stove, and all was well. It would have been nicer, though, if the design had been able to suppress the wind blowing through it.Second, the cooking plate comes up to temperature evenly across the surface. In one way, that's a good thing, but when cooking, often you want to move things to one side once they're cooked while other things finish. Even with two burners switched off, the whole plate stayed hot, and I burned the bacon long before the sausages were done! To fix that, I've got a raised rack to keep the cooked food lifted off the plate. I'd have paid a little extra for something like that to have ben included in the box!Next, it's heavy! Actually: the bottom, stove part is light and easy to carry, but the cooking plate is really heavy. Not only that, it comprises two parts bolted together: the plate itself, and a (much thinner, and delicate) diffuser on the back. The box it comes in isn't really suitable for transporting it - it's hard to get through doorways, the assembled stove doesn't fit in the box properly, (though you can invert the plate on top of the stove: it fits - just about!), and it has to lie flat in the car. Without the styrofoam (which, of course, falls to bits as soon as you unpack it a few times, and is no use when the stove is assembled) the stove rattles around in the box. That means: it's definitely a two-person lift every time. When the parts are separated, they are much easier to handle. It would have been nice if the packaging were designed to be durable and useful - storing the parts separate and securely. As it is, I'm making some bags (one for each of the stove and the plate) to carry the parts in.So, overall, the product is well-made, and works very well when conditions are perfect. I just needed to buy and make a few extra bits to make it work well (see the attached image). Having done that, I was very happy with the product (as are the members of my archery club, who are now being fed at every meeting).
