Better Homes and Gardens Old-Fashioned Dolls and Toys

This book is a treasure for toy makers and doll makers.The dolls are some of the most beautiful and charming I've seen. Included are not only dolls but wooden toys as well, Teddy Bears, Bunnies, Giraffes, cats, Raggedy dolls, hobby horses, Cows, angels and the list goes on.The book is chock full of gorgeous color pictures of every doll. The patterns are all full size and clearly printed so they are easy to trace.To start, the book begins with 3 short sections on How to Use This Book, Dollmaking Techniques and Doll Hairstyling Tips. These sections include embroidery stitches, tips for stuffing a doll and how to make fabric, yarn and wool wigs for dolls.I have decided that I am going to make at least three of the projects in this book and my fingers are itching to get started. I love the Rachel Doll, from the top of her curly-haired head to the tip of her suede slippered toes, she is the ultimate romantic doll.Next on my list of upcoming projects is a moire and brocade shoe filled with the Old Woman and all her little children in dolls. I would like to frame the picture of the shoe, it's lovely.Project number three is the Topsy-Turvy Twosome, a cat at one end and a mouse at the other end of this adorable topsy-turvy doll.This book belongs in every doll and toy maker's library.

An okay book, but not my favorite style of cloth doll patterns. Lovely clothes, however, and beautiful faces on the dolls.

I thought I already had every doll book ever printed - but somehow had missed this one. I read the reviews and decided to give it a shot - and am glad I did. The dolls are a bit outdated, but the patterns could certainly be adapted to individual taste. The patterns are clear and will copy nicely - although I would probably choose to make them smaller, this is just personal preference. The instructions are good, and I think I will be able to easily make the ones I like work for me.

I bought it for the cover doll. Most of the projects are not toys, they are for display (the kind your fussy old aunt would barely let you touch when you visited as a kid). I really hate the ones with super skinny long limbs. They have cute clothes that could be used and adapted to more attractive dolls.

Great book! Exactly what I was looking for. This book has patterns and step by step instruction for several different dolls, doll outfits, stuffed animals, and wooden toys. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in making their own old fashioned and classic toys.

This book was in very good condition. I haven't made anything yet, but was pleased with the pictures and directions. The patterns are full size, which is a plus.

This is an excellent book, lots of ideas and easy to use. Everything is explained clearly.The seller shipped it sooner than I figured and the condition of the book is excellent. I will purchase from this seller again.

Better Homes and Gardens, "Old-Fashioned Dolls and Toys" is a joy to wander through for Dolls of long ago. I have already marked and ready to cut out several of the dolls from my children's past. Now I can make them for their grandkids. What a treasure to have found this book. Anyone who likes the older doll patterns, this book is a must.
