One thing that I have enjoyed over the last few years is the rise of education books written not by researchers or academics (although there is a place for these) but instead by those working at the chalkface as practicing teachers and school leaders. This is one of those books.It combines a focus on developing a confident mindset in the classrooms with practical tips and advice to improve your teaching and management so that your confidence is well founded on good practice.This is an excellent book both for those who are in their first few years of teaching and feeling the strain as well as for those who have been teaching for longer and want to reflect on their practice - I hope that is all of us.

It's impossible not to feel confident about your development as a teacher when being guided by the warmth and wisdom of Quigley in this book. From dealing with the individual emotional and mental strains of teaching through to the specifics of improving your pedagogy, this book offers both practical advice and the soothing voice of an experienced mentor. The details from classroom and school experience, as well as from Quigley's own practice means you can easily apply the ideas in the book to your own work. It is clearly well-researched without this feeling over-egged or offered as a silver bullet. Essential reading for all teachers but also a great read for school leaders hoping to develop a culture of meaningful continued professional development within their schools.

Excellent book. Provides a really insightful overview of all that is really vital in improving our practice as teachers. A really easy and enjoyable read. Thoroughly recommend it.
