Hotter mating heat
Lora Leigh does it again with a new book in her breed series book. If your a fan and have read all of them, then you can't miss this one. If you have not read them, you might not be able to get the depth of all the characters but you can read it alone, but I would not suggest it. This is part of a series of non human/human mates with lots of sex and some violence....so don't complain you have been warned!Cullen with his recessed animal genetics was a great character to add to this series and his mate Chelsea was not a simpering woman. I felt like the writing in this book brought the series back to the original books and the hot mating heat romances. Many of the last books were somewhat confusing, and went left field from the main groups at Sanctuary, Haven and Citadel. This book I felt like tied up a lot of loose ends from the last few books, which I was happy about and I felt like I new more about the connection to the reservations and other characters that have been written about from that area. Loved the romance between Cullen and Chelsea, it was a hotter mating heat than we have had lately and I loved the burn!

Chelsea: A Character Study in Boredom***May Contain Some Spoilers. Read at Your Own Risk***
Lora Leigh's breed series is a standout among the genre. If you are a Leigh fan then you know that her stories are a trip into sensual decadence and of course very little is left to the imagination. The breed series is more complex in that has multiple plots, abundant political intrigue, and science fiction elements, interspersed with action and romance. The characters can be complicated, bold, an contradictory while others remain obscure or simply weak. The relationships do not happen in a vacuum but are constantly bombarded and shaped by outside forces as well as inner conflicts. Each book in the series is linked by common characters, unsettled event(s), or foreshadowing. And herein is a problem that at times, Leigh gets lost in her story resulting in convoluted plots, errors in time lines, and hard to follow thought processes. But those issues aside, the stories are balanced and offer a lot more than just sex to keep the reader interested. After a while, those particular scenes can become repetitive and boring without a legitimate plot to catapult the characters and their actions. The breed books vary in in terms of strength of the writing, emotional appeal, and story lines. Personally some are forgettable, others come up a bit short, but when Leigh hits her stride, you are left breathless. This is what keeps you coming back. Unfortunately for me "Waking a Sleeping Tiger" is in the forgettable category. A disappointment deep to my soul because I was expecting something different and daring in this book. In "Bengal's Quest" we were teased with intriguing changes to the mating heat, a widowed Bengal breed so deeply recessed that for all purposes he was human, a supposedly dead mate, and a breed mated to one brother but in love with another. WTH?! So many interesting avenues to pursue. But instead we got Chelsea. Perhaps one of the most lack luster heroines I have come across in this series. She felt like she was created from bits and pieces of other female leads and not necessarily the good parts. Whereas I understood her insecurities I found her weakness, fear of asking the tough questions, and immediate yielding to Cullen just annoying. Her concerns were raised mostly through internal dialogue and when she did get around to confronting Cullen, he would immediately shut her up with sex. Her submission was immediate and knocked her IQ somewhere around the amoeba level. Her only act of real defiance was turning in her resignation which of course triggers Cullen's inner beast. Not an act of peril or harm. Just that he can no longer watch her and keep her safe. Oh yes , I almost forgot, she wanted to fight next to Cullen and not be protected because being in danger and acting recklessly is who she is. Frankly as the story progressed my apathy towards Chelsea just grew. She never acted as a woman closer to thirty than twenty. Rather than a confident young woman, who had some uncertainties about her relationship. She comes across as the girl that is willing to live with the guy and submit in the hopes that he will fall in love. Even worse, she is willing to take what she can get. We are repeatedly reminded of her positive attributes, her extensive training, and her courage. But is that not a given in the work she craves? Otherwise what is the point? She is a good warrior but a very insecure woman willing to short change herself with the man she loves. She wants to be respected and acknowledged as an equal with Cullen and her family but concedes to their whims. Even Cullen's interesting background took a back seat to Chelsea's issues and was never exploited to its full potential. He was rumored to be a very powerful breed once the inner animal was released but we never really saw that. Cullen's character development was more a reflex of his interactions with Chelsea,Graham, and typical alpha behavior we have come to expect. The character felt incomplete, slighted, and relying on past patterns of breed behavior. The Bengal breed is supposed to be unpredictable, dangerous, and a non conformist making him unique. What saved this story for me was Graham's notes, Gideon's madness, some funny moments, and a brilliant epilogue that I cannot wait to see unfold.

Not the best
Where should I start? I love Lora Leigh's series, have been reading it for over a decade. Some books are better than others. This one is not. I despised the character of Cullen. I started to wish his supposed mate would just shoot him and get over with it. He was a coward and the only thing he kept doing was kissing her to shut her up. What a man! ha. I kept skipping the sex scenes, too many and I felt no bonding. I wasn't able to finish the book and started to read Cassie's story (book 32) and what a change of pace. If Cullen's story was very bad Cassy's was heaven. I couldn't put it down. Skipped a meal and kept reading and reading. The book was too short while the one with Cullen was dragging on and on and found my self skipping several pages without being able to finish it in the end. My advice? Skip this book and go read the next one.

Great one, with spectacular cliffhanger
This book was Cullen’s story. Cullen was formerly known as Judd when he was in the Labs and was Gideon’s identical twin but after escaping with Honor and Fawn and arriving at the Navajo Nation, he became Cullen and soon became the Commander of the Navajo Covert Law Enforcement Agency.Chelsea has worked for him at the Agency for years as well as working for the “Unknown” and has been training to be a field operative since she was a teenager. However, Cullen wants her to stay protected so he refuses to let her do anything other than office work and filing. So she quits to go on secret assignment for Rule Breaker and Cassie. When Cullen figures out Chelsea is not coming back and is working a dangerous Job where she is nearly killed, his recessed Genetics start coming forward and mating heat starts between the two of them. Cullen was previously married to a distant cousin of Chelsea’s and everyone thinks he has been pining for her since she died 10 years ago. So this causes issues for Chelsea. The romance has ups and downs but is quite hot and the storyline is very good. Every scene with Graeme (formerly known as Gideon) is awesome. I had been looking forward to his book but was a bit disappointed by it, he seems to be so much more enjoyable as a secondary character, I guess. The book ends in a pretty monumental cliffhanger so I can’t wait to start the next book.

Love it!!!!
The long awaited book of Cullen did not disappoint!.I'm a huge fan on the breeds series and was definitely dying for some more info on some unanswered questions. Chelsea and Cullen's story is epic and filled to the brim was so much goodness I swear I was hyperventilating in parts while reading it.A journey of discovery. An abundance of untold truths, a real crazy complex storyline that will have you head fried on more than one occasion. The complexity of it all just amazes me. The characters, the chemistry everything! It's written to perfect throwing everything at you as a reader. I just devoured it and was left with my jaw swinging on the ground wondering wtf just happened. The possibilities to come are endless but the wait for the next release is almost unbearable.Side note- to the nutter Graeme who cracked me up on so many occasions with his brand of crazy.

disappointing
ive read all lora leighs books and enjoyed all of them but this book i am so disapointed with it.cullan is a recessed breed and even as a human he comes across as weak to me and his character doesnt seem fully formed, he seems to take a back seat in the whole story compared to chelseas 3 dimensional character. the whole story is boring and repetitive and is dragged on and on. the most interesting part in the whole book is the end and what seems to be a lead up to the next installment of the series which is cassies story which i cant wait to read so i hope im not disappointed.
